Has anyone ever gone to Times Square to watch the ball drop? The news said to show up before 3pm and not to bring a backpack or (worse) any alcohol. I can't imagine standing in the freezing cold for 9 hours, sober or otherwise, just to see a big ball be lowered. Can someone clue me in on why people put themselves through all that crap for such a minimal payoff?

If you are there to pick up hookers rather than arrest them, you aren't there as a cop, at least not as a good cop

Id rather take a trip to Calcutta India then stand out in the freezing cold and crowds of Times Square on New Years Eve. Ok, you'd have to throw in a heavy duty clothspin and and a Sars mask for me to take that deal.

Id like to wish all you Ron and Fez'oids out there a Happy and Healthy 2007!

PEACE

There were bombings in Thailand, I read that they cancelled new years celebrations because of them

Yeah, I'm sure there will be violence. It generally occurs without any good excuses anyway. Saddam is just another of a long list of poor excuses for terrorist attacks. Fuck the fuckers and enjoy New Year's, unless you can actually do something to prevent said attacks.

Never gone out to a bar on New Year's. Always just spent it with my family. Don't even drink on New Year's, unless I have a drinking partner. I just do it whenever I feel like it, as opposed to when people expect me to drink.

I live 15 minutes from manhatty but never been on times square for the countdown. I would love to go, but no one wants to. They think its too tourasty (is that a word sp?) Too corwded etc. One of these years I will go. I guess living so close we dont appreciate what we have!

I would NEVER stand around with one million ham n eggers all penned up like cattle about to go to slaughter. You lose personal rights when you walk into Times Sq. on New Years Eve w/o proper ID.

I went one year in the 80's - maybe '85 - and it was a good time, but I wouldn't do it again. Besides, everything has changed. Cops wouldn't ID you unless you were doing something really really fucked up. I was with a buddy, and we got caught in the middle of a gang fight, and that was pretty freaky, because one minute you're standing there, and the next minute everyone around you is swinging fists like crazy. Fortunately we pushed our way out of the melee. We ditched that scene before the ball dropped, hopped the subway downtown, bought a sack in Washington Square Park, grabbed a six pack at some deli, and got high and drunk on some poor fool's brownstone steps in the Village.

Good times. Good times
