What the fuck is the deal with people saying "an historic" as in "an historic event"? "Historic" starts with a fucking consonant. Get over it.
It's a <em>joke</em>." <p> </p>

<p>Before "h" in an unstressed or weakly stressed syllable, "a" and "an" are both used in writing (<strong>an</strong> historic, <strong>a</strong> historic) but <strong>an</strong> is more usual in speech, whether the "h" is pronounced or not. This variation exists as a result of historical development; in unstressed and weakly stressed syllables, "h" was formerly not pronounced in many words as it is currently pronounced by many people. A few words; such as, <em>historic</em> and (especially in England) <em>hotel</em>, are in transition, and may be found with either <strong>a</strong> or <strong>an</strong>. Apparently, people may now choose the article that suits their personal pronunciation preferences with several <em>h</em> words.</p><p> They're both correct and proper, I hate when grammar goes soft. </p>

Stop watching them bury Gerald Ford. He wasn't much of a president, anyway.

I would never say "an historic" because it sounds bad, but I might write "an historic." What can I say? I took French, and h followed by a vowel is never treated as a consonant in that context because there's no h-sound in French. A lot of English comes from French so it makes sense to me.
