Now onto your topic, no its not fair. the NBA and Mr Stern have taken all fun out of the game and now free speach. I never understood why players of all sport get fined when they talk about a bad call or call out a ref. Is this part of the collective agreement with te refs, player and league that you cant hurt the feeling of the refs? Well its stupid and its just a way for Stern to tell the players your in my league I own you!!!

On another note, The nets are scheduled to move to Brooklyn in anext few years from Jersey. I have a problem with them being called the brooklyn nets. Why change their name because they are moving to Brooklyn? Did the Giant or Jets change their name when they moved to NJ? No!! So this is the same thing, keep them the NJ Nets. NJ gets no respect, we are treated like a redheaded step child of NYC yet a lot fo the people who work and spend money in NY live in NJ. New yorkers come to NJ for everything, our beaches, our sports teams, our women and even our clubs (staten island and brooklyn people do)

Keep them the NJ NETS!!!!

Part of the reason they get fined is the leagues do not want the players or coaches to intimidate the officials and therefore bring any question into their calls.

Is that the NBA's offical stance on such statements? Intimidate?! These guys are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS. Do they read that later that night and sigh to their wives "They think I'm blind. Boo-Hoo."

This is so insane I'd throw away my tickets - if I had any - to their games.

NFL coaches (and players, I think) are forbidden to bad mouth the officials, too. I don't see too much of a problem with it. It actually bugs me when players bitch about officials. Leave the bitching to the fans.

Does it happen? Probably, but it's a matter of keeping up the image of integrity in the game. And I don't think that the officials are even allowed to speak to the media.

The refs are supposed to be professionals and the players are supposed to be professional also. Part of being professional is that you play by the rules and respect the officials. The players are getting payed tons of money and when I hear one of them complaining that the refs are doing a bad job, it sounds like a spoiled brat crying because they can't have their way.

The fines that they give the players doesn't amount to much more than a slap on the wrist considering what they are getting paid. The referees are constantly being reviewed and if they are found to be doing a poor job they get diciplined too. Only when that happens, it isn't in such a public way as fining the players is.

Tell the players to shut up, play the game, and don't complain about the officials. I learned that at the age of 10 in Little League.
