<p>Let's hear your recommendations.</p><p>I'm not talking about a movie that ended up on Monday's Box Office report, I'm talking the smaller, independent or just not as popular movies.</p><p> </p><p>My pick: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421238/" target="_blank">The Proposition</a></p><p>A great film about Irish outlaw brothers and the British Captain who is hired to capture them in the Australian Outback in the 1800's. Brothers wanted for a horrible crime, one brother is sent to kill another in order to save the youngest. It's bloody and beautiful. And written by Nick Cave!</p><p>If you have Cablevision, it is available now On Demand. Dial it up!</p><p> </p>

<p>Well i'd have said "little miss sunshine" a few months ago but apparently now that its hit dvd, everyone has seen it.</p><p>But one movie I do reccomend is "<strong>Brick" </strong>it's a very entertaining and updated noir, or neo noir. Basically take one of the old detective noirs from the 40's, make it current with a bunch of high schoolers and not as well directed but pretty well acted and written.</p>

I walked out on <strong>Babel </strong>though I probably should have stayed. I was really enjoying it but my wife was having a hard time with it so we left. She didn't like the chicken part. If/when it goes to DVD I'll rent it.

I wish I had seen it, but I'll check it out soon enough.</p>

I saw The Good Shepherd last week and thought Matt Damon was fantastic, but the movie in a whole was just okay.

Little Children is a great movie with great writing and acting. The middle got a bit slow and the movie didn't need to be as long as it was but it was a very interesting film.

Of course it probably didn't help that DeNiro took 2:40 to tell that story. </p><p>However, thumbs up to Angelina for looking fucking spectacular. </p>

I haven't seen the Good Shepard only because the bootleg guy in Jersey City disappeared. I don't pay for shit anymore. I'd rather watch movies at home where I can pause and rewind if I missed something good. I can tell people to "shut the fuck up" in my house too.

I saw Babel last night courtesy of Netflix and have to say that the acting in it was far superior to Departed. Don't get me wrong I liked the Departed but the ending of it seemed like the easy way out.

Keep an eye out for Out of the Blue. I saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival last year but I don't think it has US distribution yet.
From the IMDB: Ordinary people find extraordinary courage in the face of madness. On 13-14 November 1990 that madness came to Aramoana,a small New Zealand seaside village. It came in the form of a lone gunman with a high-powered automatic rifle. As he stalked his victims the terrified and confused residents were trapped in the village for 24 hours while a handful of under-resourced and underarmed local policeman risked their lives trying to find him and save the survivors. By dawn 13 people lay dead. This is a true story.
A tough one to watch but well worth it.
I never got a chance to see The Departed.
Nor did I.
