I'm in the market for an XM portable, and I'm torn between the Inno and Helix. The price I can get either one is the same, but the Helix is MSRP'd at $349.99 and Inno at $299.99. So, just want to know what you guys think of either one if you have 'em.

Thanks!

i have exclusivity to a certain deal... price isn't the issue, its more about features/usability.

This is something I sent marc with a c a little while back about portable units:

First it depends how much you are willing to spend. The best portable on the market is the Inno, which I use. It was $400 in March when it came out (and when I bought it), and now it's $179 after $50 rebate. It's small, records a ton and can be used live when it's docked or not.

It's simple to use. You can use a Napster program it comes with, shedule your recordings on it, make playlists and remove tracks. I record O&A and R&F every day, after that I hook it up to Napster and delete all of the commercials. It's kickass.

From what I've heard the Helix is the exact same as the Inno, only another company makes it and it looks a little different. That's $159 after rebate, don't know why it's cheaper now, my guess is people don't really know about it because XM pushes the Inno.

The Nexus 25 is the same as those two, but has no color screen and you can't listen to live programming when it's not docked. Other than that it's pretty much the same and $79 after rebate.

The old generation of XM2Go are the Delphi MyFi, Tao and Pioneer Airware. Those run $139-149 and are much more bulky than the newer ones and don't offer nearly as much. I don't see the point of getting one of those since they cost just as much and aren't nearly as good.

I've had a Roady2, MyFi and Inno. Gotta say I love the Inno the best by far. Use it every day on the train and at work.

I buy most of my stuff from MyRadioStore.com (http://extpromo.myradiostore.com/promotions/s/RonFezNet.MrsHome) or at BestBuy.

the rebate doesn't apply to me since im not a new subscriber... im just not sure which one i want to get since they both have a lot of the same features, im just concerned on customer satisfaction and such, and it seems the inno is getting high reviews. but getting helix at the cheaper price is a better savings... ugh.

Like I said, it's the same on the inside, just made by two companies.

I just got an Inno recently. The only thing that bothers me is that if you have a frameware above V. 1.05 for it, the FM Modulator is disabled and you have to buy the seperate car kit which is anywhere from $50-$70 to broadcast the XM signal over and FM station.

That's a feature I used a lot with the MyFi.

Other than that, though, the Inno owns every other XM unit.

Have they figured out the recording problems with the Inno yet? It still doesn't not record my RandF or OandA properly. It just keeps them at one segment even though Earl is changing the pad data. That is what i like to do, fast forward through an hour of content to get where i need to be.

I just got the pink inno for xmas. It fucking rocks. I have yet to buy the car kit for my car, but I do use it when I'm out and it's never been a problem so far. I haven't taped any shows yet, but when RF come back on 1/2 I will start recording the shows!

Most likely the track will be named whatever the last commercial was. It's not that big of an issue. After you hook it up to napster and get rid of all the commercials (like minute long tracks) you get the full show without any breaks. So you won't have to do any searching while listening.

I bought my Inno when they first came out so I'm fortunate enough to have the FM mod. I love it, it doesn't leave my side. I had a skyfi 1 before.

Got my Inno a few months back (at a very good price) and gave my MyFi to my brother.

Anything you read about regarding functioning of the Inno applies to the Helix as well. The only differences are cosmetic. Most accessories will work with either unit, though from what I understand, the cradles are slightly different, so they may not be interchangeable.

As far as the FM modulator goes, my car has an AUX jack in the dash, so I don't need the modulator in the car, but it only functions when in the car cradle. If I find myself in a situation where I need the FM, I take the cradle (w/out any cable) with me. Its small, no larger than a seperate FM modulater like a Belkin would be anyway, and the Inno and cradle combined is still smaller than a MyFi. The cradle doesn't need any power to enable the FM modulator in the Inno, it just needs to be attached.

It has all your account info and is considered the activated radio.

There are going to be more products coming out using the passport. The advantage is that if you want multiple radios for different situations, but only need one to be active at a time, then you simply move the passport from one unit to another, instead of having multiple activated radios and a higher subscription cost.
