This goes back to EVERYTHING that was going on at Gallaudet this fall and summer...many of the students didn't want the new president because they didn't feel she was "deaf enough" and there seems to be a fierce movement, at least in that particular deaf community, to violently reject ANYTHING hearing related

I think that's pretty f'n cruel. Now just imagine what the kids will feel like when they find out they could have had normal hearing. It's probable that it might not effect them because they've always been deaf, but once they realize that they never had a chance to have normal hearing, then the resentment could show up.

You would think you would want to create someone "perfect". I don't get it.

To them deaf is better, it is perfect.

People have no definition of culture and attempt to use it to justify whatever they want. Like El Mudo just said about the deaf person not liking a person that is not deaf enough... the idea flows with blacks not liking Barack Obama for not being black enough. Using culture as a justification is just as big a clusterfuck as morals, and a much more haphazard way. It's always been amazing to me that people can move away from religion and morals, but then find ease and comfort in justifying their decisions with culture.

El Mudo's absolutely right. The woman that was going to be President of Gallaudet read lips growing up because that's just what her family did, but she learned ASL later. This meant she was not "deaf enough." They protested repeatedly at Gallaudet just to keep her out of office because of the whole beauty and importance of deaf culture blah blah blah.

Also, Gallaudet kids are the biggest snobs. They can eat a deaf dick as far as I'm concerned.
