The movie 'A Christmas Story' was brought up on the last R+F show, and Heckler mentioned that it was originally a story written by radio icon Jean Shepherd in his book 'In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash'.

The story, titled 'Duel in the Snow' or 'Red Ryder Nails the Cleaveland Street Kid' first appeared in Playboy December of 1965.

Shepherd would read it on Christmas Eve on his WOR radio show.

I have the audio of the 1974 Christmas Eve reading, and since it's Public Domain, I put it up as a download on my My Space page, in two parts, each about 5 MB. Its about 45 mins long total.

Link to Audio Here

=

For me, and other shep fans and radio-nerds like me, a cool read, he narrated the movie so the voice is familiar, but you hear a very different version of the story.
