HEY HK!!!
OK, I'm really new to this
married thing so I have a few
questions regarding property
and insurance.
I bought our apartment before
I met 'Lips. My name is the
only one on the
mortgage/title/home-owners'
insurance. Now that I'm
married, should I put
Thunderlips on said
mortgage/title/insurance?
Also, I own our car. Should I
put the Lip-Meister on the
title and insurance (we live
in Jersey so our insurance may
go up!!).
I know that, legally, since
Thunderlips is my husband he
is entitled to my property
should I die. I'd just like to
minimize the hassle "just in
case." What advise can you
give me regarding wills and
marital property?
Fondly,
Mrs. Fuzzybutt

ALICE - Before anything else you need to both make out a will. A simple will, can be done using an affordable program like Quicken Will Maker. However, if you have complex property situations or a large estate you need to immediately consult an attorney specializing in trusts and estates.
In general, some things pass without the need for a will, other things only pass via a will or by the intestate statutes. (Laws detailing what relations get property in event you die without a will).
Assuming you plan the marriage to last forever, it would be a good idea to add each other's name to all stuff and bank accounts (should you choose to do so) so that property is owned in the form of "joint tennants with right of survivorship."
In this way, should one of you die, the other has immediate access to the property, as it belongs to both of you simultaneously.
Otherwise, although in all likelihood although property would pass to Thunder in the even of your death it is conceivable that there would be some gap between your death and his assumption of the property.
