I'm an IT guy... and I work for L'Oreal (big corporate company) and we use Dell. I think that Dell puts out a great product and I have no complaints... That's how I would go.

I have had every computer out there you name it I have had it. I like to get a new computer every year or so. Plus I have owned my own business's so I have had multiple computers at my different offices.

I prefer Gateway over all

Dell was a good computer but restoring to original format was a problem. Too many steps. They do offer great prices.

Compaq liked it a lot

emachines I had both a laptop and desk top. Loved them both, good value when they offer special.

Acer, had too many gliches, like freezing and over heating. Stay away

HP. had a desktop for 1 week and returned it. This was before they merged with compaq.

I would say look at gateway first. Dont get suckered into going for a pent 4 with h/t. I have had amd, pent 4 and celeron processors. To be honest I couldnt tell the difference between the high end and low end. To me the most important thing is ram. I will be buying a computer next month when Vista is preinstalled and available in all computers. I will not buy a compute with less then 2 gb of ram. Right now you can get 512 as the norm. Some upgraded will come with 1 gb. I know with a Dell you can order it up to 4 gb of ram but the jump from 2 gb to 4 gb is close to $500 maybe more.

Good luck
