This is why tenure needs to eliminated. Somebody needs to be fired over this; the kid did the right thing.

He's a stupid ass for touching it. If he was truly sincere, he would tell someone to go get a teacher while he standed guard. What if it went off while in his possession and hurt someone? Can a teenager be an expert on guns? I think part of him thought it was cool for about 5 minutes to hold that gun. That's 5 minutes too long.

Who the hell leaves a gun in a bathroom besides....uh......uh.......duh.......DAMN!

Who the hell planted that gun in the bathroom for Michael Corleone? (It sure the hell wasn't Fredo....he wasn't very schmaart) The owner of the restaurant? A busboy? Tidy Bowl Man? Who DAMMIT WHO!?!

He didn't handle it the right way, but there's no way he should have been expelled or even punished at all for his actions, which not only were well intentioned, but caused harm to no one and according to the article led to them finding the kid responsible. What the fuck is wrong with people today? And besides, even if he did handle it wrong, he's 13, a 13 year old isn't going to think turning in a found gun to your principle could be a bad thing.

So maybe the kid doesn't know how to handle a gun. But he is expected to act calmly, rationally, and logically and stand guard over the gun while he sends another kid to get a teacher? seriously, how many of us would have had such a rational thought process in the same situation at 15 or 16 years of age?

He did the right thing and the school overreacted. But that seems to happen more often than not lately - it seems like the news is full of ridiculous stories about honest mistakes or childish pranks being treated as full-on crimes (ref. post about pre-K kid being sex offender).

Check out www.reason.com/blog or www.theagitator.com for more. (oops, am I allowed to suggest sites for further reading? sorry mods if that is prohibited, just LMK and I won't do it any more)

They're one of those places that have dress codes, so I can't imagine they're anything less than fascist to begin with. I hope someone shoots that principal in the ass with a pellet gun.
