I'm coming into town for the X-Mas party on Saturday. This'll be my first time in New York, so what's the best way to get to Midtown from LaGuardia? Hopstop.com recommends taking the M60 bus to the 4 train at 125th street, but I think I know enough about Manhattan that I really don't want to be that far north. Looking at the system map, I think I could take the M60 to the N train at Astoria Blvd, and transfer to the 7 train at Queensboro Plaza. Which is better? Or should I just pony up for a cab. It's not like I'm from the stix, so public transportation usually doesn't scare me. Much.

I can't remember the name of the shuttle, but there is a shuttle that goes from LaGuardia to 41st street, near Grand Central. I used it when I was in school 9 years ago, and it was $12. Probably more now, but not as expensive as a cab.

Getting from LGA to Midtown by public transportation is a bitch. If you're coming in from out of town, just pony up for the cab, it will save you a LOT of hassle.

Oh yeah. Quick heads up. New Yorkers don't know where everything is in their city, but they cannot NOT give you directions! They will make shit up. And they will assume you know all of the eighteen names for every street, parkway, throughway, bridge, tunnel, turnpike, asspipe in the city. You don't know wat dat is? Fuggetabaddit!

I learned it the hard way. Don't drive!

You COULD walk. I love walking to LaGuardia to meet incoming friends. Takes me about an hour.

<> Public transportation? I guess, but seriously, you should just take a cab.

Or, you can take one of these shuttles. 12 bucks is a great price, and trust me, taking a bus and the subway from LGA will be a headache.

Sorry I don't know how to make this a hyperlink:

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgtsmain.HTM#manhattan

I've got plenty of time, and won't be hungover, on Saturday so I'll take my chances on transit. I'll definitely be cabbing it back to the airport, though.
