For all of you DC United fans, and MLS fans in general, the 17 year old disgruntled phenom will be wearing a Real Salt Lake jersey along with Nick Rimando. Farewell, #9, good luck in the land of white bread and the King family. I for one will miss his unbeliveable touch and controlof the ball, his immense energy, where at anytime he could score from anywhere on the offensive end of the pitch.

on the one hand fuck dc, so i'm glad he's not there. on the other hand, salt lake? is that where we want our 17 year-old phenoms to waste away? although he IS going to be playing for his former under-17 coach, who will have more desire to showcase him than there was in dc. the move to midfield will be interesting.

Might be good to get him (more) out of the spotlight for a couple years. I do hope he eventually makes it to one of the better European Leagues to hone his skills over there. I give him a couple years in SLC until he goes batshit crazy. DC United picks up another "major allocation" spot. Should be interesting to see if teams use those to hire aging, but not yet decrepit stars from the European leagues.

On a side note, I had the idea of MLS teams trying to mimic European clubs' names. Real Salt Lake? What the fuck is so Royal about them? Are they the team of the king of Utah?

My older kid played against him throughout the U-9 to U-15 years. Freddy was always a soccer diva. Phenomenal skills, dominating despite playing top youth soccer, three years above his age, but always treated like the superstar he has always perceived himself and many others to be. He never warmed up with his teammates, but would sit in a corner, listening to his walkman, then walk out onto the field right before kickoff and play well enough to win. Teams would game plan solely on stopping him, yet he would still be effective and score. He had never really been called to task until Peter Novak got a hold of him. Off the field, a very nice kid, respectful, happy, and funny, as well as a very nice mother and uncle. One day he will thank Novak for the tough love treatment on the field. He is the real deal.

Poor El Mudo, I bet he'll miss partying with him at UMd.

I think I hate Houston Dynamo the most. The might as well start teams named Locomotiv Memphis and Red Star San Francisco.

In terms of names, my favorite was the San Jose Clash, but that's only because I like the band. Plus their fan group was called the Casbah.
