I can't believe it was 26 years ago today that John Lennon was gunned down. i know a lot of you weren't even born yet, but it was an incredible shock and I can't really think of an entertainer today that I can equate it to. It was news that literally stunned the entire world.

Sometimes I'll listen to Lennon's solo stuff and I can't help but wonder what he would have done through the 80's and 90's. He's a huge inspiration of mine musically and I'm sure several of my fellow posters here feel the same.

i dont know what he would be like in the 80's but i could see him getting into Grunge and maybe doing something with Nirvana but not Pearl Jam.

God Speed Mr. Lennon and for once i dont mean that as a goof.

I remember waking up to go to school and hearing a whole lot of Beatles songs. I said to myself "One of the Beatles must have died." I'm smart like that.

Our life together is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love is still special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone

It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over, starting over

Everyday we used to make it love
Why can't we be making love nice and easy
It's time to spread our wings and fly
Don't let another day go by my love
It'll be just like starting over, starting over

Why don't we take off alone
Take a trip somewhere far, far away
We'll be together all alone again
Like we used to in the early days
Well, well, well darling

It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over, starting over

Our life together is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love is still special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere

Starting over

I still get sad that Waylon Jennings is gone.

He was (and is) a HUGE musical hero of mine. When I was 19 I bought a black Telecaster hoping to look half as cool as him.

And Double Fantasy sucks ass only because half the songs are Yoko's. Lennon's contributions are incredible. "Beautiful Boy" is one of the songs that I should have listed in the "Songs that break you down" thread.

I remember as a kid our teacher passing around a john and yoko book, and it had a picture of both of them in the nude. It piqued my interest, and I haven't looked back since.

The worst thing about this day is seeing Yoko show her ugly face talking about John. If John Lennon was still alive I'm pretty sure he would have dumped the annoying bitch for something much much hotter.

I was 8 years old and don't remember much. I play in an original band and my only beef with all these rock "icons" is that there is SO much good original music out there and if people would actually go and see real bands who lug their own equipment and play for $20 and free beer they would understand that there are probably 1000 John Lennon's or Bruce Springsteen's out there that just don't have the exposure. They're are plenty of great bands/musicians/songwriters out there... you just have to look and not wait for mass media to spoon feed them to you. But I regress.... much respect.

love alot of beatles tunes and some of his solo stuff. just so much irony when a man wanted so much to have peace and gets killed in such a violent way.

you'd be surprised though about how many people you find that love music from their era but never liked the beatles. for people that love the beatles it seems unimaginable but it's true...

I've gotten in a ton of retarded arguments about this, but Yoko is probably a factor that makes me respect Lennon a TON more.

This guy was a megatalented musicial genius and everybody crawled up his ass for being with this annoying avant-garde artist (talentless? that's your call). The media and society blamed Yoko indirectly for the Beatles demise. So what did John do?

Recorded an album with her. Posed nude with her. Did the peace sit-in with her. Basically told society to go fuck itself.

Think what you want about Yoko, but John's stance on the woman he loved took balls. For that he deserves my respect.

Never was a big fan of him. Wasn't into his life style either, but he did inspire a lot of people, even though he was quite idealistic.

29 years, bitches.

Woke up the morning of December 9th, 1980, my 11th birthday, to my mother saying to me "Happy birthday, Billy. John Lennon is dead." A most vivid birthday memory.

I always felt bad for Julian. He really got screwed over by his father. Paul was more of a father to him than John ever was.

Yeah, sad stuff. John Lennon really was a walking contradiction in his talent and activism and humor on one side and then this other side where was jut the cruelest person possible.
