<p><img src="http://www.thealarm.com/photos/promo_dec2.jpg" border="0" width="350" height="281" /><br /><br />Since the early 80's, Ive always been a fan of THE ALARM</p><p>So for the first time in maybe 10 - 15 yrs, for whatever reason ...I decided to give them a listen. <br />I still think they are an "awesome" rock and roll band. But I was amazed at how much they reminded me of .... well lets just say a MEGA SUPERSTAR BAND. </p><p><br />CAN YOU FIGURE IT OUT?</p><p>Give this song a listen and post who you think it sounds like / reminds you of. AND / OR just your thoughts on the band. Just bored and curious. </p><p><a href="http://www.xpressgfx.com/Circus/alram.mp3">THE ALRAM - RESCUE ME (LIVE) (1990)</a></p><span class="post_edited"></span><span class="post_edited"></span>

I saw the Alarm the first time in the early 80's. They opened up for U2 at the pier in NYC, and almost got booed off stage. I thought they were great though. They were the perfect match for a band like U2. I've seen them 2 or 3 times after that at smaller venues.

<font size="2">U2 was my thought too. Not as much vocally, but very similar musically (that song anyway).</font>

<p>I haven't gotten to listen to this particular track yet, but given that U2 started it's meteoric rise while the Alarm was on the scene, plus some similarities in style (both musical and performance), the Alarm often got pegged as U2 Jr. </p><p>I will say that I saw them open for Dylan an Merriwhether Post Pavilion many, many years ago, and they owned the joint.</p>

<p>Sounds like U2 with Billy Idol singing - which I find kind of cool...</p><p><img src="http://z.about.com/d/classicrock/1/0/u/4/bono.jpg" border="0" width="147" height="156" /><font size="7"> +<img src="http://www.musikmarkt-wiesbaden.de/images/BILLY%20IDOL%20dancing%20with%20myself%2012.JPG" border="0" width="150" height="156" />=</font><font size="4">bitchin'</font></p>

right on. Specially the break down / crowd participation thing. Funny thing is I never really thought of u2 when I was listening to them back in the day

<p>I'm not quite sure, but the song fucking rocks. </p><p> They do sound a quite a bit like the clash. I was reading somewhere on amazon and someone said they sounded like them. The sound is very similar. </p>

I think I used to have about 3 or 4 Alarm albums. Loved them. I'm not surprised they got booed off the stage at the U2 show. People always did that crap back then. I saw Lone Justice get booed off while opening for U2. I thought they were great. They also did a good job of ignoring the boos.
<p>U2 definatley Pops into my skull, The clash a tad too.</p><p>Edit: I get alot of my music taste from my two siblings who are a bit older than I. My brother had hundreds upon hundres of cd's, but I never really "borrowed" any alarm albums. </p>

<p>REM was booed when the opened for the police. </p><p>The worst story I heard about booing, was when the replacements got booed off the stage opening for Tom Petty YEARS AGO in FLA</p>

i saw the alarm at a fall fest at univerity of buffalo in 1983. when they played 68 guns the crowd was so into it that people stated litle fires in the crowd. it was crazy, i still love them. then again, i still love the cure too.

Sounds like U2 when they put out October / War / Boy. It has that unique "The Edge" sound.
