What is Easy Listening all about?

I have this neighbor whose teen son is into some kind of noise called easy listening. I hear him blasting it from his car, and the so called singing cracks me up. Is it a gay thing? I never see him hanging with chicks? Can someone please tell me what's the story with this awful noise?
