Today I heard when someone called in to talk about Dave posting something on here in a drunken stooper. Then I hear that he had his account hacked.

The internets are not very secure, so i thought i might help others not have something like this happen to them. If you Post on FBA or Wackbag both sites are susceptable to certain hacks/scripting attacks that allows the person performing the act to steal your personal info. In a forum running PHP / Vbulletin a person can post a topic and inside the topic place a .GIF image with PHP Script inside the image. When you click on the image or in some cases mouse over the image, it will then grab your current session cookie, and email it to the attacker.

This Cookie contains your user name and password for the site / forum you are browsing.

You can't really stop this. The site admins can / should upgrade to newest Forum software and this will make this type of event far less likely.

1. Use a different User Name and Password for forum posting, and I know we like to keep the same User Name for different forums cuz that is our identity online, at least use a couple different passwords.

2. Get an email address that is for garbage and use that for all of your online play / posting online. (Like a Hotmail or Yahoo)

3. Use a firewall (other than Windows own) and this can help prevent / detect access to items that should be secure.

If any Admins would like to see a proof of concept (which is more like a fill-in-the-blanks howto) I can provide it via PM, maybe you can figure out how to restrict access, or set some permissions to different levels and prevent this from happening. As for R+F.net i don't know squat about ColdFusion, and neither do alot of people, so there should be some security in that.

emPulse

It's generally a good idea to change your password on a regular basis and keep it as random as possible.
