i am in the market for a new car. I am renting a chrysler 300 for the next week or so and i like it. i like riding in style but it is too much. I was thinking about a mini cooper, Jeep Compass or something else. since i am not sure i am open to suggestions. got any?

You like the 300M so why are you looking at something as tiny as the MiniCooper and the Compass?

What are you most interested in - sportiness, appearance, functionality, size, etc?

Let me know your preferences and your price range and I'll tell you what I recommend. I'm a new car freak.

Any Jeep is a good thing, maybe a commander. They are still a fair bit in price though. The VW Jettas are nice practicle vehicles, cheep price and you can go 1400 km on a tank....what's that, 840 some odd Miles? Very good when you consider gas will spike in late January or february.

i see your point
i love nice cars, but i'm just too cheap to pay for one. for me a car is just
something to get me from point A to point B nothing more. i haven't had a car
payment in 12 years, and i've only been broken down once.
you can always rent a nice car if your going out of town.

Nice wheels Boeman.

I have two right now:

1) Comany Car - Ford Escape (not great pickup bc they didn't exactly get me the loaded package but hey it's free all around (ins, gass, repairs).

2) Acura TSX fully loaded with GPS, leather, disc changer, spoiler, sun-roof and a ton a power and speed. Love the car and will be trading up soon for the TL or the MDX. Only problem with the MDX is I don't like the current model bc it looks like a hybrid (SUV/Minivan). I'm not into those at all. There are a couple BMWs and Infinity models that have caught my eye of late too, but I'm still about a year away.

The escape is pretty bad on gas with what feels like no engine at all. While the TSX isn't as good as they advertise either. Yet I really like to drive that car pretty hard. I mean come on, it's leased and it's my fun car.

i was in the market for a new car last year, and was looking hard at the mini. i ended up buying a mazda 3s for a few reasons. it was cheaper (minis are hip, so the price is too high for what they deliver...like an ipod on wheels) and as powerful (italian job be damned!) while not that much bigger. it's a great car and a ton of fun to drive.

(fact checking)

If you're looking for something that handles more like an "American" car, check out the Ford and Mercury versions - The Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan. Ford has majority ownership of Mazda, so it's basically the same car with different styling and different suspensions. The Milan is a really pretty car and they're giving deals like crazy on them. You can get a Fusion or Milan in either 4 or 6 cylinder versions, but the Mazda6 is definitely more fun to drive.
