View Full Version : Waiting on line for the Nintendo Wii

I drive by my local Circuit City about an hour ago and saw 3 geeks waiting on line (that's on line not on-line) to buy a Nintendo Wii.

Unless I read the sign wrong, it does not come out until next Friday.

Math tells me they will be standing there for 6 days.

Does Nintendo have the same supply shortage problem as the PS3? Or are these bozos just trying to get on the news?

Tomorrow morning. 8 am.

Not nearly the shortage of PS3.

And 1/2 the cost.

I was at the Times Square Toys R Us today, which was a mob scene. They were having a big countdown thing for the Wii starting at 8:00, and they were going to start selling them at midnight.

I'm not gonna buy either one til the prices come down, but from the news stories, it looks like the cheaper one, the Nintendo Wii, is the better gaming experience. More interactive.

What do the nerds think?

My brother in law bought it at 8am this morning. Him and my son are playing Zelda right now.

I'm thinking of getting one. How are the sports games? And what are the best 3 games for the system so far???

I started my kids out with my old Nintendo NES a few years ago. A few months after I brought the Sega Genesis up from storage. By the time they had gotten tired of those, the Game Cube had been out for a while and the price had started dropping.

The point is that we are a year or more behind the trend so that when we buy them, the prices have dropped and there are tons of games available.

It was a good plan until this year when we decided to get them each a Nintendo DS lite.

The new Zelda is miles ahead of Windwaker. Which was basically an N64 game they had in the can, and released it on the XBox.

The remote takes some getting used to though.

what about the games for it. can you get most of the games that you can get for 360 or ps3?
It seems so. Madden 07, Need for Speed Carbon, and Call of Duty 3 are already out. A Far Cry game and the new Splinter Cell game are coming out. In the future that may be different. The Wii is not nearly capable of the graphics of PS3 and 360. Whether or not they conitnue depends on how well the Wii sells since the graphical handicap and new control scheme will probably require separate development teams. But I'd imagine the huge titles like Madden and such will always be there.

Alot of the same titles are coming for Wii that are on the other systems, but with different control schemes using the Wii controller.

I went to the Times Square TRU yesterday and picked up my Wii. Played some sports and Zelda last night.

If anyone is looking for a Wii, I picked up 2 and still have the second one :)

As I said earlier, the new Wii Zelda is miles ahead graphically. I don't know if the Xbox has enough horsepower to do it justice. I'm not even sure it will be on XBox. It is controller specific.

When I picked up my GameCube, I got the "Special Edition" Zelda Cube. Along with Windwaker, it came with a bonus disk. The origional "Legend of Zelda", "Zelda II The Adventures of Link", "Ocarina of Time" (my personal favorite), and "Majora's Mask".
If you have a Wii and you want to see something cool, do this: First, make sure you have WiiConnect247 turned on. Then, go to your address book and add your email address. Then, turn your Wii off. Check your email on your computer and reply to the email. Wait about 20 minutes and then look at your Wii.

My friends and I waited outside for about ten hours for the midnight release this past weekend. I'm really pleased with Zelda, Call of Duty 3, and the sports game pack that shipped with the Wii.

I'm less pleased with Red Steel and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Red Steel was just built to show off the controller and it doesnt look like much thought was put into the graphics or the fun factor. Marvel Alliance is hard as shit to control. The movement is fine but I need to strap the Wiimote to a monkey and shock it's balls to get any attacks going. I hope they include dual control schemes for games like this in the future.

As long as the controls don't become more important than the games I think the Wii will be a great system.

It's graphics are kinda sucky and it gets boring fast.

The call of duty Wii commercial gave me the douche chills....

I look incredibly gay playing it but its fun. And the whole deal is more potential than anything else. The Wii controls were obviously slapped onto Zelda at the last minute to provide a big launch title. Red Steel's controls need a lot of tweaking, its almost worse than using regular controller controls for a FPS at the moment. Wii Sports is fun as hell but very simple. When playing it you can see how in the future developers can make tennis games that takes into account how hard you swing and what rotation you want to put on the ball. In Wii Sports baseball it's only based on timing but you can see how in the future you will be able to swing and aim the ball, go the other way with it or turn on a fastball. It all depends on how developers can implement everything, but this console has potential to go far beyond anything the 360 or PS3 can do.

And if the DS is any indication they will come up with fun shit we can't even imagine.
