I'm on an Opie and Anthony break and I desperately need something to listen to. Since Ron and Fez only give me 3 hours a day, I was thinking of getting into Stern.

Is the show back to mid-90's form, or is it as awful as it was his last few years on terrestrial?

I like Bob Edwards, Brian Lehrer, On the Media... sometimes Mike and the Mad Dog, but I can only listen to so much talk about sports...

Bob Edwards has great political interviews, but sometimes he has awful guests (like country music singers) and Brian Lehrer is hip and extremely current in NYC, but again.. he has guests I have absolutely no interest in.

Not for nothing, but check it out if you are interested.

Personally I have no interest in Stern, never did. I am very much a fan of XM 202, the old school WNEW etc... Still, the current Stern show is easily accesable. Try the Sirius online trial if you want or even find a p2p downloading method (torrent, usenet, pick your poison) and give it a listen on your PC or mp3 player.

I downloaded a show and had no interest in it. It languished on my pc hard drive for 2 months and was summarily deleted.

I signed up for the free online thingy, but never listened. I keep up by reading the recap on marksfriggin.com. This way I'll know when Artie ODs. For all of Howie's bitching, it doesn't seem like he's really doing anything that is different from the old show. Shocking.

The shows a lot better than it was getting, he clearly sounds like he's having a great time so it carries over into the show making it a lot funnier. The show is much better uncensored. I love when listeners will call in and call Robin a cunt. Artie is one of my favorite people on the show,. I'm not saying it's the greatest show, but yeah when nothing is on O&A or if I'm not in the mood I'll put it on.

Plus Jackie Martling has his own show called Jackie's Joke Hunt which is kind've funny, and I really like Jim Breuer's show. At least get the online trial and give it a listen.

Howard blew his load in the 90's and hasn't had a new, fresh idea since it seems. I lost interest in him around the time I heard he put a gag order on O&A so they couldn't talk about him.

Wow, my favorite Champion of Free Speech went to his bosses and got a smaller show shut up. He didn't fight them on air like he was famous for up until that point. What a fucking pussy.

Plus it was Strippers, Midgets, Retards, Complain, Rinse, Repeat EVERY FUCKING SHOW. He got so bad that I'd never give him another chance. Seriously. What I've heard of the Sirius show is the same boring bullshit with curses.

No thanks.

I tried to listen just for the hell of it because I used to like howard. But he really is just not funny anymore. The only thing interesting, like Torker said, is seeing when Artie will OD or whatever.

The show just stinks anymore, not to mention that Richard Christie and Sal Have this gay thing going, its really stupid

i listened to howard up until he went to sirius. i was all into getting sirius radio and even went to the howard stern event that he had at Union Square. Thats when the Pests showed up. I didnt realize that O&A were back on the air over at XM. I was so excited that O&A had their army troop there. I immediately walked over to the XM truck, got my stickers, free tshirt and went back to work. signed up for xm and havent looked back since.

i guess what turned me off about him is that he did nothing but complain about what he did for radio and how everyone steals his bits. you would think that a person like stern would welcome people like o&a and R&F for continuing to break the norm from talk radio. i think he just took being the "king of all media" too seriously and truly ruined his own reputation, thats why most of his fans didnt cross over, myself being one of those fans. if i catch it in someone elses car, i'll listen. other than that, he's not getting my money.

i did the free trial to listen to him, but like Torker i never listened to it.

howard stern is a dinosaur that never evolved. sure he was funny and creative as hell when he was at his best, and he basically created a whole new way to do a morning show and influenced god knows how many radio people. but when his act got old, and when there were certain things he couldn't get away with anymore, he began shoving the same tired old bits down everyone's throat, and turned what used to be an innovative show into a daily whinefest.

he's been on auto pilot for years, and moving to sirius didn't change that. the fact is that success DID change him, and when he talks about his hamptons weekends and all that edgy stuff he's not selling out, he's just being himself. the problem is that who he is now does not nearly compare to what he was.

he also likes to surround himself with creative and funny people, and then totally kill anything they try to run with. i'm not really a fan of o & a anymore either (sorry ron), but at least they let their comics and their guests run with stuff much better than howard does

i was a big o&a r&f fan from the WNEW days (like many others). when they went off the air i was forced to listen to stern (actually i listened to him, o&a, r&f and don/mike everyday). when WNEW blew up, i listened exclusively to k-rock for stern and some music. when o&a went to xm, i was one of those cheap bastards. i loved their show a lot more, but if i could get stern for free i was content when that. at about that time stern went waaaay downhill in a hurry. the last year to year-and-a-half all he did was bitch all day long. waah-waah cbs. waah-waah fcc. there were occassional bits of fun during the show, so i still stuck with it, even tho' all my friends and i just thought it was mostly shit. then when stern was going to switch to sirius it just got unlistenable. it was 65% whining, 35% sirius promotion. so, last xmas i signed up for xm (didn't realize r/f had signed up a few months prior...bonus!) and was never happier listening to the radio.

I haven't listened since he left commercial radio.

I have a bunch of friend who either have, or had Sirius and the reviews have been mixed.

Some have said they like it, some have said it's just the same old shit as before. If it helps, the people I know who dig the new Stern show generally are in their late 30s, early 40s which explain the wide difference in opinion. Those guys have been in so long that they listen and enjoy because it's a comfort zone type of thing every morning to hear Howard like they have the last 20 years.

I personally have no desire to hear him again, either. I barely listen to O&A anymore and I have the XM receiver in front of me every morning...there's no way I'd go out and pay for Stern. Maybe if he signs a deal similar to O&A's to do commercial and satellite, I may check out the commercial show.

I listen to him off and on but do catch a lot of his stuff on On Demand.

I've said it before and I'll continue to say it and that if he stays off of his plolitical and what I did for radio stuff he's very funny.

I used to hate Artie but he's gotten mucg funnier because he's kinda the opposite of what Stern cries about. He seems so disinterested in that stuff when Howard goes on and on.

The thing he is still guilty of is a one track mind.

He continues to ask the same questions of the same guests ( specifically hot chicks ).

He continues to do the " Ride The Sybian " thing w/ ever hot, and scarely sometimes un-hot, chicks.

There are times when its hillarious so I do tune in when nothing else is on.

I know we try and avoid the anti-O&A stuff on here but even on his worse day I find Stern to be 1000 times better than O&A.

I'd say at this point Stern's show is good 50% of the time and that favors heavily when he has good guests and when they discuss current events.

So I'm listening to his replays now and he's playing a clip of mel Gibson on leno and saying how easy the questions are that he's asking.

This coming from a guy who fwans over the most unimportant, irrelevant " celebrities " ever.

Kissing Andrew Dice Clay's ass, kissing pam Anderson's ass, that wetback from The 70's Show, etc ...

He even kissed Bill O'Reiley's ass when he was on the air and then proceeded to act for days after the interview like he was tough on him.

Oh and he couldnt even get to 19 year old porn chicks to get on that tired ass sybian.

I mean clearly the audience wants to hear the 50th time somebody's ridden that thing and hear blockbuster questions like " would you put a finger in a guy's ass ? "

Stand out programming I say.

I listened to stern's sirius show a handfull of times when i was borrowing my mother's car (That is sterns main audience too, 55 year old ladies) and it was pretty terrible. Even she doesnt listen to him anymore now that OnA are on free fm, and she bought sirius just for him to begin with. I'll admit, I'd listen to Stern on the way to work ((when I was workin' heh)). Mildly funny, but ehh. Fast forward to this semester, and my one professor and I would get in good natured XM vs Sirius fights. So one day we listened to a portion of Stern's show, and a portion of O&A ((via online feeds)). Since it was a Friday, it was a prerecorded Stern show from '98ish and O&A were live. So, I find it kind of ridiculous to pay for his program for only 4 days a week, and then listen to a prerecorded thing that you could have listened to live for free. I am biased though, and Sirius as a whole has some good features. But, I wouldn't recommend buying solely for Stern because in my opinion, its probably not worth it.

i listen and would argue the show is better than or equally as good as ever thanks largely to richard christy and a bunch of other guys producing bits/phone calls etc... i know people will say that howard's gotten old and lazy by surrounding himself with all these people but who cares? if the show is still funny, it's still funny.
