It's that time of year again. I always love to eat mixed nuts this time of year.

Which kind of nut are the best at retrieving from the shell whole? Only pick "chestnut" or "almond" if you totally suck at cracking mixed nuts. They're too damn easy.

And, yes... We know what your dad used to call Brazil Nuts!

Brazil Nuts are next to impossible to get out completely intact.

Walnuts are a little easier than pecans, chestnuts and almonds are no challange at all.

Why is it only this time of year that we eat these ?

I love pistachios but you don't need a nutcracker for them. I'd say next to
them the ol' brazil nut. It's weird how white the nutmeat is inside.

The shells have a oil that is caustic, and will make you itch. So, they are always sold out of the shell.

You'd be surprised how many threads there are about mixed nuts on this message board. That post about cashews being like poison ivy kinda freaked me out.

Cashews are related to poison ivy. The shells have a oil that is caustic, and will make you itch. So, they are always sold out of the shell.

And they are connected to a sweet berry of some kind that rots so fast that it cannot be shipped. They make it into a drink that you can only get local.
