I've been having some trouble running Total Recorder the last few months, When I try to run it, the program won't load and I get the following error message:

Total Recorder encountered a problem using the "LAME MP3 Codec v0.9.0 - 3.93 (stable)" codec and will be terminated.

Hitting help on the error message gives me the following advice:

Possible Cause #1

There is a codec installed which has bugs. It is possible this codec is the “LAME MP3 Codec...” codec.

Action #1

Uninstall the codec identified in the error message.
To uninstall a codec on Windows XP:

1. Select "Start"-"Settings"-"Control Panel".

2. Click "Sounds and Audio Devices".

3. Select the “Hardware” tab.

4. From the “Devices” list, select "Audio Codecs", and press the “Properties” button.

5. Select the “Properties” tab.

6. In the “Audio Compression Codecs” list, select the codec to be removed, press the “Remove” button, and confirm this action.

The process for removing a codec on other operating systems is similar.

If an error occurs while trying to remove a codec, you should remove the first file of the codec, and then repeat the steps above. Codec files normally have the “.acm” extension and are located in the system directory (“…WINDOWSSYSTEM32”). The “LAME MP3 Codec...” codec is likely named “lameACM.acm”.

When I get to step 5, I get the following error message, and I can't go any further:

An exception occurred while trying to run "C:WINDOWSsystem32shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:|WINDOWSsystem32MMSYS.CPL",@0"

Any idea what I can do to fix this?

You gotta do better than that? Can't fdisk only be run at the dos level? are you suggesting a command prompt, or a setup after boot?

You can try two different things. You can try running windows system file checker. You can do this by going to the start menu, then click run. Then type in:

SFC /SCANNOW

You may need your windows xp cd. You can also try the link below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q203661/

apples are the lithium of the computer world. please don't turn to the darkside.

Because iyts a codec you need to unistall it if it is reporting as BAD. Try going to the Lame MP3 website, sometimes updating to the newest codec will fix it (sometimes it uninstall the old one before proceeding.)

Here is a link to a codec pack that has Audio and Video codecs

klmcodecpack
