Good to hear, but I always kinda consider the Raconteurs as another version of the White Stripes. I would still be happy if he went 100% one way or the other, but I guess its good to get somewhat of a variety from Jack White.<br />

I enjoy the White Stripes, but I can see why White would want to move on. Like it or not, they've set themselves up a pretty finite career run given that there's only 2 of them and they use such purposely dated instruments/production. The Raconteurs are decent, but I'd much rather see Brendan Benson put out some more solo work.

burrben I assume you have seen them live. I probably would be disappointed, even now in medium venues there not as great as they were in the clubs. Bigger is not as intimate and they really feed off their crowds. And I am afraid to be let down when I see them play the Austin City Limits Festival. But not to worried because Dylan and so many other great bands will be playing there.

While you're waiting you can read Jack's poem to Detroit:
'Courageous Dream's Concern,' by Jack White
I have driven slow,
three miles an hour or so,
through Highland Park, Heidelberg, and the
Cass Corridor.
I've hopped on the Michigan,
and transferred to the Woodward,
and heard the good word blaring from an
a.m. radio.
I love the worn-through tracks of trolley
trains breaking through their
concrete vaults,
As I ride the Fort Street or the Baker,
just making my way home.
I sneak through an iron gate, and fish
rock bass out of the strait,
watching the mail boat with
its tugboat gait,
hauling words I'll never know.
The water letter carrier,
bringing prose to lonely sailors,
treading the big lakes with their trailers,
floats in blue green chopping waters,
above long-lost sunken failures,
awaiting exhumation iron whalers,
holding gold we'll never know.
I've slid on Belle Isle,
and rowed inside of it for miles.
Seeing white deer running alongside
While I glide, in a canoe.
I've walked down Caniff holding a glass
Atlas root beer bottle in my hands
And I've entered closets of coney islands
early in the morning too.
I've taken malt from Stroh's and Sanders,
felt the black powder of abandoned
embers,
And smelled the sawdust from wood cut
to rehabilitate the fallen edifice.
I've walked to the rhythm of mariachis,
down junctions and back alleys,
Breathing fresh-baked fumes of culture
nurtured of the Latin and the
Middle East.
I've fallen down on public ice,
and skated in my own delight,
and slid again on metal crutches
into trafficked avenues.
Three motors moved us forward,
Leaving smaller engines to wither,
the aluminum, and torpedo,
Monuments to unclaimed dreaming.
Foundry's piston tempest captured,
Forward pushing workers raptured,
Frescoed families strife fractured,
Encased by factory's glass ceiling.
Detroit, you hold what one's been seeking,
Holding off the coward-armies weakling,
Always rising from the ashes
not returning to the earth.
I so love your heart that burns
That in your people's body yearns
To perpetuate,
and permeate,
the lonely dream that does encapsulate,
Your spirit, that God insulates,
With courageous dream's concern.

Alison Mosshart, vocalist for punk minimalists the Kills, and Jack White have joined forces as the Dead Weather, a new band also featuring White's Raconteurs bandmate Jack Lawrence and Queens of the Stone Age's Dean Fertita.
Mosshart will sing, Lawrence will play bass, Fertita will play guitar -- and White will be on drums and vocals.
The quartet, which are making their live debut tonight at the opening of White's new Third Man Records building in downtown Nashville, will release their debut album, Horebound, in June. It was recorded in just three weeks at the Third Man building, which was designed by White.
A limited edition 7" vinyl pressing of the Dead Weather's debut single, "Hang You From the Heavens" (including a cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?"), will be available exclusively to invited guests at Wednesday night's event. The two songs are expected to hit iTunes immediately following the gig.

An interview with The Dead Weather (http://www.self-titledmag.com/home/2009/04/14/the-perfect-storm-st-corners-the-dead-weather-for-one-of-their-first-full-band-interviews/)
but the most important thing from this interview is that there will be a white stripes film this year (probs their 10th anniversary show from 2007.) CAN'T WAIT!

I really love how Jack White makes a guitar sound. I might wind up seeing that It Might Get Loud because of him.
Really I dont think there is a more consistant popular band in the world.
