Great Party
This is my first post here
I was "the sole survivor of the trojan wars".(The bedsheet was a little difficult to read)
Had a great time but was disappointed that Ron & Fez didn't show up earlier.
It would have been fun to watch them judge/make fun of our costumes. I did get to shake Ron's hand. I'm sure he will never forget it.
Ron & Fez should have shown up to club and broadcast live. Al could have stayed back and run the boards.(Poor planning or by design?)
By showing up after the shift, Ron & Fez may have pocketed a remote appearance fee.
Here's how the night should have been aired.
Between 6 & 7PM Promo for the party on The O&A show
7-9PM live in studio
*** 3 or 4 live interventions
per hour
from the clubs with Billy (I like Billy)On each intervention, have Billy let a different person in costume get on the phone for 15-30 seconds.(play it by ear)
9-10pm Play the Best of Ron & Fez with Al running the boards.
*** again 3or 4 live interventions from the club with Billy(Again,
get involvement from costume wearing listeners.)
Also, during the 9-10pm hour, Billy will choose 10-12 finalists.
10-11PM Ron & Fez broadcast live from the final club.
(Al is back in the studio to run the boards)
Commentary:
I went to a fun party last Friday night. Ron & Fez showed up at the end of the party.
I don't know about anyone else, but in my experience live broadcasts of a talk show at road show/parties are always brutal to the listener at home. I liked it the way it was.

Damn Maestro2000, Mr. Negativity. I didn't even go. Sorry once again do to school but I only have three words to say to you...

BITCH! BITCH! BITCH!
Also, Dan's right on what he said. Live broadcast from installations other than their respective studios cuts down on the quality of the radio program.
ANyWHO, welcome to the board, Maestro 2K. Hopefully you'll have more fun on this board than you apparently had at the Bar Crawl.
You can't please everybody, all of the time. Apparently. Sheesh!

I hate people who complain that a party wasn't good enough for them.
If you were bored or un-entertained ... then you should have left.
A party is only as good as YOU make it. Not if Ron and Fez are there at 7:00 or midnight. I didn't even see Ron or Fez at this Bar Crawl, and it took nothing away from having a blast with a bunch of cool people.
What bothers me the most about your post is that it is an ungrateful post. You don't compliment the job Billy did, all you do is say... well it SHOULD have been done this way.
If you didn't have fun, that is your problem, don't blame others for your lack of social skills.

here is my commentary:
Went out to a Bad ass Bar Crawl Friday Night with some cool mother fuckers!!! Dropped a couple bills on drinks and shots around the bar!! Met some hot girls, saw some funny ass costumes and, laughed my ass off watching Billy Staples prance around Manhatten in a bunny costume!!!!

I just couldnt see Ron and Fez doing a live show. Their show isnt that kind of production. It thrives on the slow-paced pauses of dead air sometimes in the studio to truly make Ron and Fez what they are. How many other radio show hosts come out and greet their fans? So what if they got an appearance fee? We were all there to support them! I bet Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh wouldnt show up at a bar to meet all their crazy characters that make up the show. I am not picking on you, but I think we all had a blast, and if you were at Al Dukes' crawl you know this one was 100x better. SEYA...hey, im getting close to 100!!

TRY READING - Tom Poo
I started with saying "great party" and "had a great time".
But listening to the show, I was lead to believe that Ron & Fez would be there. They came late and and I didn't see either one in costume.
This was clearly Billy's party and he was a great host. My comments are really aimed at the lack of focus from WNEW manangement in this party.

This is my first post and i would like to say that, screw "could've been better", this was my first time gettin out there and hangin with you fine people. And i had a fuckin blast. I met some awesome people, got hammered, and went home broke! It was a perfect night. And i gotta thank all you cats for being so cool to this newcomer. I wanna thank Gwen, Gvak, Billy, Tom poo, Sweet Melissa (who by the way, really is the sweetest thing ever!) and anyone else i forgot. Even though R&F showed up late, who really cares? They were hysterical when they got there. So i hope you all got to meet "the towel" cause i'm here now, and i look foward to chattin with all of you. And again, thanks for the great time on friday. Appearance Fee:
This event was to help NYC. Would Rush receive an appearance fee for a charitable event.(Maybe the whore would)Reimbursed travel and incidentals sounds like the right compensation for charitable events.
Slow paced show:
Did you get a chance to listen to the tv/radio special Ron & Fez covered? (The second one)These two guys have incredible ad-libbing talent. They think very well on their feet. It would have been nice to see/hear them comment on our costumes.

Every opinion is valued here, guys. I just wanted to reiterate that. You may disagree, but let's keep it civil. I'm not saying it's not so far, but I can smell something coming...
Anyway, I don't think you can blame the fact that it wasn't a live broadcast on incompetence on anyone's part. I'm sure it was a conscious decision to do it that way. You have to give Ron and Fez credit for coming down at all and being so accessible. Stern, for instance, does more live shows and appearances, but when has he ever mingled with the crowd the whole time?

HEY TOWEL MAN!! I am soo happy someone remembered that skit back in the summer. I was driving to Vermont to goto my once a week job as race car videographer every Thursday and somewheres in Mahwah on rt 287 myself and my friend Redneck Dan heard the Towel commentary. It was also the first time I heard the White people are so scared of black people sound byte, and I almost crashed my car cuz i was laughing so hard. It was glad to see that someone else also got a laugh out of it, and had the balls to personify it for the halloween costume! Seya

Stern Vs Ron & Fez
Your comparison is a weak one. Stern draws thousands of people at his remotes. You will have a riot if he mixes it up with the crowd.
Give Ron & Fez credit for coming down at all:
This was their event.
HELLO!!!!!
Maybe Paul McCarthy should have skipped the benefit last week. Just lend his good name and not good talent.( I watched through many hours just to see him perform)

"live broadcasts of a talk show at road show/parties are always brutal to listener at home"
This is of course a matter of opinion. I've listened to Howard Stern & Imus in the morning do live broadcasts. Enjoyed both from my comfortable car seat.
Maybe WNEW lacks the technology to pull off a live remote broadcast. Could this be what you really wanted to say?
Doubt it. Ron and FGez simply dont do that type of radio. Ots not a bad thing that they dont do it, maye, just maybe they dont want to be like everyone else! =)

Enjoyed talking to you about shit outside the Slaughtered Lamb...
But really man...save the boring radio format crap for the NY radio message boards.

If that bar crawl was any better, we'd all be dead right now. At least I'd want to be. What else would I have to live for? It was damned near perfect as it was, and if it did attain perfection, I'd want it all to end right there and die a happy man!

Was nice talking to you to at the Slaughtered Lamb.
Thanks for the warning on my opinion of Howard Stern. I was not the one to introduce him into this section. I was only replying and eventual felt compelled to state my opinion on him.
I've been listening to Howard for nearly 20 years. I used to work for minimum wage stuffing envelopes listening to his show.(Back when WFAN was WNBC and Howard was working 3-7PM)
Howard opened the doors for people like Opie & Anthony, Don & Mike, and of course Ron & Fez. Otherwise they would still be spinning records with minimun on air intervention.
This message was edited by Maestro2000 on 10-30-01 @ 1:26 PM
Maybe WNEW lacks the technology to pull off a live remote broadcast. Could this be what you really wanted to say?Opie and Anthony have done plenty of live broadcasts. Mulchahys is one example. And, Ron and Fez did plenty in Florida. So, both WNEW and Ron and Fez are more than capable.

So, if WNEW has the technology & has the on air talent what could be the missing link here? Possibly WNEW management to run it?

maestro2000 could you possibly be the "mad producer", cuz for some reason i feel that your trying to "produce" the show from a message board and at the same time while your doing this your putting down al dukes and having him stay in studio while everyone else has fun. I guess you really hate him huh. Could it be that he has the job you want? the job you dream of? the job you masturbate in the name of??? hmmmmmmmm
you also say this is your 1st post, great thing to say to throw everyone off, that way they can never suspect that you are the MP since he's posted hundreds of times. Also you say you were at the bar crawl, how conveniant that you were at a costume bar crawl and it was very easy for you to blend in and stalk the show without being detected.
