Glad to see Subway's taking it in the fart box.

I used to have them, Subway, as an account, now have Quiznos, and I detest them.

Quiznos is great but very expensive.

In my opinion, there is only one possible winner and you don't even have them as a choice:

I'd stab my wife and at least one of my kids for one of their portobello and mozerella sammiches.

If you wanna compare hot sandwiches like at Panera I'd favor Cosi.

Better soups and all.

As I stated we have Quiznos as an account and they close as quickly as they open.

2 in Westchester here just closed with in a month of each other.

One was at a good spot in the The Westchester ( high end mall if you're unaware ) and still went under.

The rent is usually pretty high in that place but other fastfood chains ( Ranch 1, Desert Moon Cafe, etc ... ) have been able to stay.

I have to drive like 15-20 minutes to get to the close Quiznos to me ( Carmel NY ).

Subways are all over because their franchise fees are much less than other chains and they can go in small spots in strip malls where other chains want either a free standing building or spacious insides.

Quiznos likes to consider themselves casual dining or Quick Serve ( fast food where you sit there and eay it and it looks " fancy " ) more so than fastfood ( like Subway ) so they want to attract people to sit in there and eat.

JuJu a lot of what's in that link you posted is true.

The one thing Quiznos Corporate is not guilty of is saturating the market.

As I said in Westchester/Putnam the 2 closest ones are more than 30 minutes apart.

They do have a lot of problems with their real estate and expect a lot from their franchiees.

The territories are usually sold to somebody who has total say over where, what & when can happen with an outlet.

Subway is actually much worse. They pay no respect at all to their franchisees.

They'll open up 2 outlets within 100 yards of each other because they get 3% ( maybe higher ) from the sales of both stores as well as franchise rights payments from both of them.

They dont care that the 2 will cut into each other's sales because they still get the same percent of the net sales.

There was a stat a few years ago that Subway HQ ( Doctors Associates ) was sued more times by their own franchisees than the other top 5 fastfoods places combined.

Another interesting note about Quiznos is they are now, as of March 2006 I think, owned by JP Morgan Chase. I beleive they have a 51% stake in the company.

I wasn't suprised by The Poll Results, since I discovered Quiznos over two years ago, I dropped Subway like a Bad habit. I went to a Blimpies once, but haven't been back because they went out of business in that location.

BTW - an important factor to consider is soup. Blimpie and Subway have horrific soup. Panera and Atlanta Bread company do not, infact, it's awesome.

Thus then, I vote for Panera as well.

It's much worse over the last couple of years. There are more milf's per square inch in westfield than anywhere else I can think of right now, that's what keeps me from really avoiding that place. The Panera is rather unassuming. I think you might even notice it more quickly from the back side (sort of by trader joes). It's one of those stores over there that you could walk right through back to front.
