INNSBRUCK, Austria (AP) - Super-G World Cup champion Regine Cavagnoud of France was seriously injured Monday when she crashed at full speed into a coach on a glacier where World Cup skiers were training.

Both Cavagnoud and the coach, identified as Markus Anwander of Germany, suffered serious skull injuries. They were rushed by helicopter from the Pitztaler glacier to the university hospital in Innsbruck, the Austria Press Agency reported.

Cavagnoud had a brief cardiac arrest after the accident but she was revived by her coach, said Phillipe Auer, race manager for her ski sponsor, Salomon's. Cavagnoud also had broken ribs, a bruised liver, bruised lungs, a broken arm and a concussion, he said.

Hans Pum, who heads the alpine division of the Austrian Ski Federation, said Cavagnoud crashed headfirst into Anwander as he crossed her path. Anwander reportedly had a broken jaw and other head injuries.

Several national ski teams are training on Austrian glaciers at the start of the World Cup racing season.

Cavagnoud, a veteran of the French national team, did not win a World Cup race until her 10th year of competition, when she won a downhill in January 1999 at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.

She is the defending World Cup champion in the Super-G and was third last season in the overall cup standings. A strong overall skier, she has been competitive in downhill, Super-G and giant slalom, and finished third in Saturday's season-opening giant slalom. <a href="http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20011029/sp/ski_cavagnoud_injured_4.html">Yahoo!
