View Full Version : In Memory Of Duane Allman

I'm a couple of days late but 35 years ago the greatest slide guitarist in rock history was tragically killed at age 24 in a motorcycle accident. I only discovered the true talents of Duane Allman during college and he quickly became one of my guitar heroes. He could play some stinging slide like on "Statesboro Blues" or some softer, melodic rhythms such as "Little Martha".

This is a really good article about his impact on rock.

Duane was phenomenal. He was also a session man for many of the soul stars of the late 60's and early 70's, and his guitar work can be heard backing up Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett, among others.

It's mind boggling that he was dead before his 25th birthday.
