Halloween, 2006. Seems like everything on TV today is "scary". Even AMC is showing Halloween 2 this morning. Got me to thinking: what TV show, movie etc., ever freaked me out. The only one to come to mind was "Trilogy Of Terror", with Susan Black. About a little dark savage, 6 inches tall, wreaking fatal havoc all over the place. mesmerizing, paralyzing, and scary. How's about you?

TV? Horror? Can't even consider the topic without first mentioning Rod Serling and THE TWILIGHT ZONE. And come to think of it...NIGHT GALLERY had a few creepy as hell episodes. THE OUTER LIMITS was great. Moving on through the years...I really liked THE NIGHT STALKER with the Kolchak character. Great blend of horror and humor. The original pilot episodes were scary as hell. A modern day vampire in one and a modern day ripper in the other. But the NIGHT STALKER stuff doesn't really hold up too well. Either that or outgrew it.

None of the new stuff scares me. Most of it just seems silly. The last movie that "scared" me was THE SHINING.

More of a shocking moment on TV was Born Innocent. I was watching the Linda Blair Biography last week and the shower scene where she meets "johnny" caused the family hour. After that movie shows with explicit scenes had to be shown after 9pm.

i believe it was a TV movie and someone had posted it recently in another thread

i was 11 and it was very scary. mostly what i remember is these 4 or 5 little creatures dragging the mom down the main hallway to the basement. she grabbed a camera off the hallway table and flashed a few times but they got her down to the basement and down the chute below the old fireplace as the father entered the house, but she was gone...

I thought of another one. This one's embarassing. My sons would call me a retarded pussy if I admitted to be totally freaked out by the "NBC's Saturday night at the movies" (lit up in white light bulbs) playing of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie. It wasn't the alien, but the reaction of the citizens of earth that created a lot panic and anxiety. That one and a movie I believe was the original version of the "Invasion of the Body snatchers" (not sure of the title), where they used a toilet plunger on the back of earthlings necks to turn them into zombie/aliens, and got sucked into a quicksand substance. The kid in the movie, looking for help, makes it to the police station, only to find the desk sargent had already been infected. I almost shit my pants.

I still have some that I taped on VHS. Wasn't Romero or King involved with it?

The one time I got really scared was a halloween night when I was about 12 or 13. PBS was showing "Night of the Living Dead" at midnight. Since it was a weekend I was allowed to stay up to watch it on the console TV in the living room. I turned all the lights out in the house, got my popcorn and drink ready and settled down to finally see the movie I'd heard so much about. As soon as the first scene ended with the brother getting attacked in the graveyard I was so scared I turned all the lights back on, including the porch light. I also looked up and down the street to be sure no zombies were in the area. I then watched the rest of the movie with every light on. I was hooked on zombie movies from that day on.

For me, I will never forget watching the original NIGHT STALKER movies and tv series as a little boy and being freaked out - locally, "Count Gore" (him again!) freaked me out with showing "House on Haunted Hill" and other classic movies - SALEMS LOT is maybe the only Vampire movie that ever scared me, as an adult or kid - I also have to agree that episode of X-FILES was the creepiest they did, and I was a huge fan of AMERICAN GOTHIC too. Holy fuck, though - TWIN PEAKS, while not necessarily a scary show, had some moments that were wonderfully freaky and tense - the first time Agent Cooper dreamed, and the last time he woke up - great stuff.
