she is about 25 pounds. she is a mutt but i am not sure of what. based on how she jumps, she has some jack russell in her. you are right, she looks like a lap pup, the vet callers her "the little rottie"
Oh, damn, I thought maybe I had found a new breed to look for when I'm in the market for my next pooch. Well, either way, cute as hell & a great size. Small enough to be a lapdog but big enough to not emascualte the male owner. You've got a winner.
And as long as we're all talking about dogs, here's a shot of my Canaan, named Cabo, from a few years back.

Thanks but it's not so cute when the food bill comes in. My camera is just a plain digital, Canon SD 750.

Coco keeps knocking her food bowl over. At first I thought it was an accident, but I set it up again this morning and she knocked it back over! Now I really think she's trying to send me a message.

Pumpkin is an English Bulldog, not AKC, abandoned possibly because of her eye "defect" or her small 50 lb stature. We adopted her last summer, don't know how old she is.<p>

her name is Shelly and so far shes perfect in every aspect (completely housebroken, not too barky) except that she is a totaly CUNT with other dogs. I'm taking her to the dog park everyday on leash with a muzzle to try to socialize her a bit
but at home shes great. i even trust her enough to let her roam the house when i sleep (i put her in the crate when i leave). She just stays on my couch. And shes addicted to bellyrubs. shes a belly rub junkie

My cat has this new fascination with the cable modem - I constantly find her curled up next to it. I hope it doesn't get it filled with hair, but she just looks too comfortable to move. You'd think she could find a softer pillow :)

So excited! It's a digital dog collar camera, set it to take a picture at 1, 5, and 15 minute intervals. It holds 40 photos so I can see what my dogs really do when I leave. Great Britain laid down in the dark right after I put it on her, so I only got a couple good ones last night.

All the discussions about kitty litter in the "getting a dog" thread made me wonder, what do you use for litter, how often do you REALLY change it, what have you found to work best?
I have been contemplating getting the LitterMaid but someone told me it stinks, so I did not want to spend 100+ on something that might be horrible.
I really hate the litter box (and the job of cleaning it) and it seems no matter what I tried and despite the mat in front of it my cat seems to drag out too much litter and it ends up in the hallway.
I have a closed box for him (he likes his privacy :) ) and I have tried many kinds of litter, even pine litter... nothing worked as well as I would want it to.

I LOVE the Litter Maid ... I cannot stress how awesome it is (with the right litter). We tried natural litter and it was messy and didn't work well, you need to use a really strong clumping litter. We use Arm and Hammer. Our cat likes the privacy as well, so we bought the one with the privacy tent. Our first Litter Maid lasted almost 2 years before the motor died, and our second one is just over a year now and running strong.
It's a little loud, and if you don't stay on top of emptying the container it can start to smell a little, but I would rather be dilligent about changing a platic container once a week rather than scooping a conventional box daily.

I am jealous! I did grow up in an apartment but my grandparents had a farm and we spent so much time there. Later we moved there and I would easily trade it for any kind of city living... as long as I can drive into the city on occasion
Maybe I should give the LitterMaid a try, I was wondering about the durability (read people complaining it broke quick) and the noise (wouldn't it scare the cat away??? )

Luckily the plan is that I will be in the city at least twice a week selling our goods, so I am sure I will be able to get my fill.
The noise would scare the cat if she were in it (which I think happened once or twice), but generally, She goes in, does her business, then it waits a couple minutes before raking. I guess a couple times she's decided she has more to do and started to step in as the motor starts. They have built in safeties though, it's not supposed to run if she's in there and so far so good. It seems like something that would break, but we've had a ton of luck and I wouldn't go back to regular litter boxes for anything.

I have 4 cats. I have tried EVERY fucking combo of litter/litterboxes. If you only have 1 cat, and it's small, the littermaid will work. BUT - my cats are fatasses, and the clumping litter made GIANT clumps from their pee that make the rake thing in the littermaid get stuck. And when it gets stuck, it makes a horrific noise that the cats then associate with the littermaid and end up hating it. I bought it when it was still $300!
If your cat will tolerate it - this system RULES - it has a pee pad thing at the bottom that absorbs the urine (you take it out once a week) and it reduces the smell, and the litter pellets don't track around the house:
http://www.amazon.com/Tidy-Breeze-Litter-System-1-Count/dp/B001411SK0
The only thing that sucks is, I can't find the refills in the store, gotta order them online. If you stay with clumping litter (I still have 2 clumping boxes), use the Booda dome box to reduce tracking (they have to climb up "stairs" and go into the box), with Everclean (if you want to shell out for the best) litter. Everclean litter reduces the smell SO much more than regular.

Good point ... I almost forgot about that Missy... if the clumps are too big, or you over fill it with litter, the noise it makes when it's stuck is REALLY REALLY bad. Luckily our cat is tiny. Definitely not for bigger cats.

They sell the booda dome at Petco/Petsmart, etc. It really helps with the tracking of litter. If you just have 1 cat, and the "clumps" in the litter are not huge, the littermaid would probably work well for you.

http://www.petco.com/product/106905/PETCO-Jumbo-Sifting-Cat-Litter-Box-Liners.aspx?&cm_ven=GoogleBase&cm_cat=Cat&cm_pla=PETCO&cm_ite=1141058&CAWELAID=215067574
It's 30 or so thin litter lines with holes in them, so you stack them up, then put clumping litter over it. you can pick up the edges of the first liner, pull up, and the waste is in the the liner, and the litter sifts back into the box.

Anyone know anything about this?
http://www.catgenie.com/
It's expensive, but with four cats it might be worth it. Right now, I'm just using a plain old litter box. My main turnoff from using the Littermaid and other systems is I don't want to have to order refills online.

My boy cat Otis is one cunning cat. We have a cat tunnel, and he loves to hide behind the tunnel and jump through it at his sister cats whenever they are passing it. He just grabbed hold of one of the strings on the outside of the tunnel (it can be tied to another tunnel to make it longer) and he just dragged it over a good 6 feet and positioned it in front of the food dish. This way, he can ambush the girls when they go to eat. Genius.

We had a scare with Stella (our Cairn Terrier Puppy) this weekend. We went up to visit the In-Laws, and when I let both Puppies out of the car, my Mother-In-Law let their dogs out of the house. They have 3 English Springer ... the mother of my other puppy, and two others from the litter. Sara (Mommy English Springer) went after Abbey (My Springer) first, then saw Stella, grabed her and shook her like a rag doll. She swung her twice before I was able to get to them and yank her out. Stella was obviously terrified and shaking, but she was ok. I just put some ointment on her where the teeth marks were.
I am still shaken up by the whole thing. Anyone see their pet go through something like this?

There are lots of articles online (and probably in your vet's office) about how to introduce a new pet to your household.

It's only been 3 days, and they're not fighting or anything, Pronto just doesn't care for him.
Considering one of the main reasons we got the new pup was because Pronto seemed "bored', it's a little disheartening. It now seems like Pronto may have enjoyed being a single dog.

It took Piper a solid two weeks to get used to Puck when we brought him home. She (Piper) wouldn't look at us, wouldn't play with anything (even if we had the puppy away and out of sight), she just sat tucked away on the couch or in the bedroom away from us for two full weeks. Then, one day on her own initiative, she picked up one of Puck's toys and started playing with it and goading him to play with her. It was touch and go like that for another week and then they were inseparable. They'll come together on their own, it just takes time and seems disheartening. She was so scared of him at first and it was weird 'cause he was the only thing she'd ever seen smaller than her, she has no problems getting along with bigger dogs quickly.
We got Puck for the same reason (Piper was becoming a BIG couch potato and seemed very bored) and now she's more youthful and more playful. The two dummies are always running around the house. At least you did it while pronto was still younger (how old is he?) Piper was 2.5.

Pronto is 2, this makes me feel a lot better! You're describing pretty much exactly what's happening right now. Pronto loves other dogs so much that I expected him to instantly love this guy, I guess that was a little too high of expectations. They have played a little bit, but Pronto has definitely been giving us the stink eye and sitting on the couch looking pissed.

The cat is Tiger, he moved in about seven weeks ago.
The Doberman is Amber. Even at 110 lbs. she thinks she's a lap dog and if she walks slowly enough she can sneak passed you if she's been in trouble.
The outside dog is Toby, he weighs in at 150 lbs. He's 1/2 Atika, and 1/2 what ever snuck in and fucked our Akita. He likes to swim in our pond and try to catch frogs and fish. He also catches pheasants in the grass along the creek next to our house.

I get the meds from them. I went in to pick them up and mentioned it, and they said they'd look into it, but there's no way to prove it came from them. Our vet is good too and I wouldn't want to switch.
And it seems pretty clear to me... we had a small flea problem last summer which was cleared up around Sept. No fleas. Wamu goes to the vet for a neuter... comes back w/ 3 fleas. Then I find flea on my cat. Were taking out the last of our carpet soon so I think that will make it much easier to treat, but it's a big pain in the butt.

I picked up Ginger from the vet. She has intervertebral disc disease. It's relatively common in Frenchies, and she won't need surgery, but she has to take it easy for a while which she is none too keen on.

Huh, I'd never heard that, but they are definitely top heavy. When we lived in upstate NY we had to watch her like a hawk when we were down by the lake. She loves the water but that noggen of hers is so heavy she would just start to list and sink.
She was a rescue doggeh. Can't imagine why anyone would abandon a little cutie pie like her in the Bronx, but they did. People can be such assholes.

I had to take our 11 year old dog to the emergency vet tonight. He was really crying out and his hip looked really goofy. I was scared and even cried on my drive up to Rochester. 4 hours and $390 later Sirius was found out to have a sprained leg and inflamed knee. Phew! It was a long evening and now Sirius is all doped up and acting really goofy.
I didn't like being there. I think I was the only pet owner there that got to take their pet home with them. All of the other pet owners were given bad news. So sad.

I'm watching my sister's dog for a week. "Smoke" has always been sweet and somewhat of a Prima donna. When we would take family photos, she would always run over to sit and pose for the portrait. She's 15 now. She recently had a stroke. She's deaf and half blind. But I was surprised to see that she is still fairly energetic for a dog that can't even climb stairs anymore. The weird thing though is, when I open the door to go into the room she's staying, she has NO idea I'm there. I've never experienced a dog that's deaf before.

So I take my dog to town today while I drop the bedspread off at the laundromat....
He is a 110 lb lab/golden retriever mix. I thought I'd take him for a nice long walk while bed spread is washing and drying.
The dumbass is scared to walk on sidewalks. He is crying and whining. So I walked on the sidewalk and he walked on the street, nearly getting hit a dozen times.
I guess we can't take him to Chicago this September with us or NYC this December.

Is $1500 too much to spend on a 12yr old cat that I love and dont want to die? I know he will die soon regardless, but his current affliction is a benign tumor in his mouth. He already had a cyst removed 4 years ago that was way less expensive and hes been fine for 4 years. An xray confirmed today that he has no other tumors throughout his body. He could live another three years I figure...Its a moot point because Ive already decided to split the cost with my Mom (whom he lives with). So I spent roughly $750 to keep him alive. Which is def a big hit but overcome-able. And makes my Mom less mental. I dont know. It happened kinda fast but I couldnt see just letting him die from a treatable illness.
I guess Im just curious if Im crazy or if I did the right thing. I personally felt like it was a no-brainer but my dad thinks im nuts. I mean, if the vet told us he was terribly sick and had only a slim chance at survival I would have accepted putting him down. But if a simple surgery can fix him I had to go for it. Despite his age. No?

My cat sat like this for about an hour last night, scaring the shit out of my dogs as they came down the stairs. She swatted wamu and he jumped 3 feet straight up then fell down the rest of the stairs (which are in the process of being replaced, which is why they look like crap)

Did you ever try and take a picture of your pet? They always will start looking around like a retart just as the picture is about to be taken. Why? If I am eating, it won't even blink. Does the camera scare them? Is it because the camera is not food?

Guess it depends on the dog. My mom had three dogs (one died last year) and she swore by it. Of course they are very well trained.
Tried it with my dogs, nothing doing.

I just went through the toughest time I have ever had with my 2 min pinns Murphy and Kate....Murphy Started losing weight at an alarming pace....I took her in to Dr Furnick new vet my old one retired...She is young blond and very cute just for a visual ...Kinda took me by surprise....Any way she told me she had a very very high white blood cell count..gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way....Then Murphy started to swell very fast...I took her back for more x rays. But she had way to much fluid in her chest cavity to see any organs...More antibiotics scheduled an appointment to maybe draw off fluid to see better in x ray.... I laid awake for 3 nights listening to her whine from the pain of this swelling..I took her back Wednesday morn to get fluid drawn ....They called be about 11:00 and asked me if she had ever been spayed !!!!..I feel so bad but I never had being an inside pet and it was just a BIG BIG mistake on my part....I was sure she was going to be put to sleep Wednesday...Then she called me back and told me she was pretty sure she had pyometra I'm not going to check that but it is an infected uterus.....She told me that it was covering her whole body cavity and at 11 years old she might be able to save her if the diagnosis was correct..I was so torn with the money!!!!! and the fact I might be able to save her.....I told them to go a head with surgery....She is setting here on my lap...She weighed 10lb 8 oz when I took her to the hospital....They took out 4lb and 4 oz of infected uterus..She made the medical journal here locally...The Dr said she had NEVER seen anything like it..She also emailed pictures off of her phone to 30 different veterinarians .... She also showed me the pics it was amazing Very gross but amazing...I almost posted earlier in the week that I was losing my pup...But so far that is not the case....your Pal Juggy

I'm glad she's still with you, buddy, and I hope she pulls through.
All the best.
