It would have been better with Keith Richards playing guitar.

I was scared my dad was going to get one of those when he had throat
cancer a few years back but thankfully the radiation/chemo treatment killed
it and he still speaks fine. That's what happens when you smoke Lucky
Strikes for 40 years.

My dad had a laryngectomy in 1973 when I was 5. He had one of those devices but didn't like to use it (and it freaked me the hell out!). Instead he just whispered or he'd "burp" words. For some reason I was the one who had the easiest time understanding him and I'd have to speak on the phone for him or "translate" for people who couldn't understand him (every once in a while I'd get some moron who'd say, "Now tell your father..." right in front of him. I'd have to say, "He's not deaf" or I'd turn to my dad and say, "What he said").

This commercial horrified me the first (and only) time I saw it.

But this one's not as nasty as the Mexican guy. That one takes the prize for creepiest commercial on public tv ever. It was so bad I had to look away every time.

I never understood what the hole is for? Why not close it aftert he surgery? If you dont use it to speak why keep it open?

By the way I stopped smoking after 18 years. Its only been a little over a month but I havent craved a cig nor do I have any desire for one. I just hope it stays like this and I never go back to it.....

Why can they have these commercials on and cigarette companies can't advertise on tv? I'm fuckin sick of this shit. Besides who doesn't fuckin know that sometimes people get sick from smoking? Newport time!

I can't stand that commercial but the guy I share my office with thinks it's hysterical. So he played it like 5 times a day when he 1st heard about it.

I never understood what the hole is for? Why not close it aftert he surgery? If you dont use it to speak why keep it open?

The normal system of breathing includes inhaling air into our nose or mouth, then to the larynx, down the trachea (windpipe), and then into our lungs. After the larynx is removed, there is no where for the air to go. To enable you to breathe, the surgeon will take your trachea and create a hole in your neck called a stoma. You will now breathe through your stoma instead of your nose and mouth
