Im probally the only 18 year old in the U.S without a cell. Before I didn't have much use for a phone but lately day by day a cell is needed more and more. I wanna hear opinions on what service is good and what brand phone i should get. A phone price isn't really much of a obsticle, Though the phone isn't gonna be under my name (though im gonna be paying for it) im having a family member use theyre credit card. I think my mom tried for me like 3 days ago with verizon but currently they won't accept her credit. Is verizon the only service like that or is all of them like that?

If one of them says you (or your mom) don't have good credit, chances are, you'll get the same answer from all of them. You may need to go pre-pay. If you do go pre-pay, you REALLY need to figure out how much you'll be using the phone, before you decide which service to use.

Also... since you said the phone price wasn't an issue, you can still get service from a company that turns down your credit. You'll just have to commit about 200 bucks as a deposit.

I'm all about the Verizon. Consistently the fewest black out spots. Check Consumer Reports.

And sheepy, post your phone number on the board and see what happens.

my sister wants me to get on her plan (t-mobile) and she'll use her credit card for me if i pay her each month. The only thing is all theyre phones are ugly. And whenever i hear her on her cell calling from work she sounds kinda bad. Im not sure.

Verizon gets 4 stars from me, and I've found their customer service excellent.

Whatever you do though, do not get a ringtone. They're dumb.

For durability, ease of use, and reliability you'll never beat a Nokia phone. I've had Samsungs and Motorolas and for the most part they're pieces of shit. I'm a loyal Nokia man for the rest of my life.

My service is Cingular and I've gotten service everywhere - from campgrounds out in PA and upstate NY (where my Verizon friends had to borrow my phone) to northern Vermont where my parents live.

I've had Cingular for years, and despite what consumer reports says, my service is usually better than my friends who have verizon. And if it matters to you, Cingular treats their employees a lot better than other wireless companies, and verizon is one of the worst. Verizon won't allow their guys to unionize, and have used dirty tactics, including shuting down call centers, to keep it that way. I know some people don't care about stuff like, but it matters to me.

Edit: I'm talking about Verizon Wireless, the landline section of the company actually treats their employees decent.

just got a new Motorola "with a camera", i'm really moving up into the technology age. i've had a Nokia for approx 6 years and just recently it's been powering off on me with a full battery. I'm a little worried being Gvac had some bad luck with them so we'll see.

as far as Verizon, i've had them six years and can't remember one time i couldn't make a call or had to call customer service. maybe it's because sometimes when i wanted to make a call and couldn't the call wasn't too important? or i'm senile

Just don't run up a big bill... refer to my past thread "My son ran up a huge cell phone bill"... I believe the concensus was electric chair or cutting nuts off...
