The hype starts today:Beginning Tuesday, Fox will show an online trailer for season six of the Emmy-winning action series 24, which stars Kiefer Sutherland as the terrorist-fighting federal agent. I loved the look on that Chinese guy's face when he saw Jack. Take that bitch! As for the trailer, this season looks like it's gonna be great. Quite possibly the best yet.

To be honest, I'm a huge 24 freak and I didn't "oooh" and "ahhh" over this trailer like I did with last year's "How did you get this number"? Jack's beard looked INCREDIBLY fake, and I'm just not digging the soft-squsihy "Jack Bauer Must Die" font.

A show as successful as 24 is not going to go out at its peak on its own. When the show finally turns bad, that is when it will go away. Until then, expect more crazy story lines involving Jack.

From TVGuide.com:Fox's 24 has officially announced that Season 5 villain-in-chief Gregory Itzin and his firecracker first lady Jean Smart will resurface during Jack's next very bad day. While no details were divulged about the Emmy-nominated couple's encore, save that they are both recurring gigs.

Twin obsessions with marketing and distribution - the latter now focused on in-home and mobile viewing rather than the traditional movie-going experience - have pushed aside once primary concerns about quality and entertainment value. That's why you don't go to the movies as much as you used to. That's why the movie industry is scrambling to reverse its sliding fortunes. From where I sit, the movie business would not be saddled with so many problems if executives in the film divisions of the entertainment conglomerates worked as hard as those in the television divisions of same to both serve and grow their audience with top quality product. That brings me to Fox' 24, set to begin its sixth season on Sunday. Any one of the first four hours scheduled to debut in two two-hour blocks on January 14 and 15 offers more riveting and compelling and thought-provoking drama than any major Hollywood movie of 2006. Put the four hours together and you have an Oscar-caliber production that still has 20 more hours of story to tell this season. Former Fox entertainment chief Gail Berman once told me that she considered every episode of 24 to be a movie. True that. From what I have seen so far, I think this season of 24 could play on the big screen in twelve two-hour increments and would fill theaters and thrill audiences in the manner of the old movie serials. Indeed, if presented in this fashion, 24 might generate bigger box office than most of what passes for entertainment at today's multiplexes. I have to believe that the experience of watching this show would be even richer if viewed on a giant screen surrounded by hundreds of other fans simultaneously reacting to its non-stop thrills, chills, drama and horror - especially the horror. (There is plenty of that in the opening hours of season six. You have been warned.) Interestingly, 24 also works when viewed alone in the privacy of one's home, even on regular television sets. That's the brilliance of this franchise. January after January, critics including myself rave that the upcoming season of 24 looks to be the most powerful yet. That's true again this time around. Full credit goes to series star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, who just may be the bravest actor working in television today. For example, few others would or could pull off the startling act of barbarism Sutherland's indefatigable CTU super-agent Jack Bauer resorts to at one point during hour one and not turn off the audience. (You'll know it when you see it. It's something you have never seen a character in a television drama do and you probably won't want to see anyone do it again!) Kiefer fans, take note: There is a scene between Jack and two terrorists in hour two that may mark the best acting Sutherland has ever done on this show. The very serious letter that accompanied the screening copy of these four hours and the multiple warnings that appeared onscreen while watching them made clear that there will be trouble for any critics who reveal significant details of these episodes in their reviews. The problem is, damn near every detail is significant, so I'm not going to say anything, except this: I don't see how it will be humanly possible for anyone who watches these four hours to not watch the following 20 - especially given the truly breathtaking final minutes of episode four. He tells Bill Buchanan "It'll be a relief" and is happy to die for something.But when he find out that the bad guy that CTU is getting is has changed his tune (Alexander Siddig is a likeable terrorist) and is trying to do some good (Stop the attacks on the US) Jack changes and becomes the Jack "Power Hour" Bauer from the 1st 5 seasons (which isn't a bad thing but it takes less than 1 hour! Which is not believable) and is soon kicking people out of trains and kicking ass left and right. He kills 2 people and you won't soon forget those deaths. He does seem to revert back to his weakened state; Telling Assad that he doesn't "know how to do this anymore." Assad tells Jack that he will remember. David Palmer's brother is not as impressive as a President. And his sister is really liberal (her storyline is what I will endup skipping when watching this season again.) The FBI agent who ends up arresting her looks a hell of a lot like the man who shot down AirForce One during Season 4 (The guy who looks like Bill Burr).<span style="font-size: 10pt; color: navy; font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'

I watched last year for the 1st time. I havent gone back and caught up yet but I will be watching tonight. You can just start watching tonight. Each season has its own complete story. There are other old characters that will pop up but you will still understand whats goin on.

i really wasnt feeling anything i saw tonight. first kal penn is indian not arab, i know most people don't see a difference but he looks nothing like any of the terrorist guys. i thought there was some pretty bad acting throughout. the second episode barely kept my interest. and was that chevy chases daughter from vegas vacation working at CTU?i missed the first few minutes of the first episode did they explain what happened in beirut? or what this guys beef is with jack?i hope tomorrows is better, i refuse to just give this a good grade just because i've liked the show previously.

Great stuff as usual. Its amazing the writers can come up with exciting new episodes after 6 years. I will ignore that fact that the terrorist jammed a 2 foot steel rod into Jacks back and crippled his nerve centers on his left side...but its as if he was at Club Med the past months....and a shredder program takes many HOURS to shred data.,..especially the amounds of data that youd assume that chick was going to delete. PLEASE PLEASE WORK KIM into the show somewhow and soon!!

Observations:1) "That Guy!" sighting: The civilian family's father.  He's been in a crapload of movies, I remember him being one of the Air Force radar guys in Independence Day.  I keep thinking he's one of the Brady Kids all grown up.  (Specifically Bobby, but I know it's not Mike Lookinland.  However, he does look like the more handsome brother of the "AARON BURR!"Got Milk guy.) 2) Bill Buchanan showed more emotion in his "Chloe, WTF did you do?" scene than he did his entire 3-season run on the show so far. 3) The kid from the civilian family is this year's Frank Flynn's girlfriend's son.  Hopefully he'll be gone by episode 6.  I hearby re-name him "Hobie Buchanon", no relation to Bill. 4) Does anyone see any parallels between Heller's son and Kumar?  Innocent father, but wrongly-idealistic son?  "Sixth-grade Michael Moore logic!" 5) Eric Balfour looks like a white Giancarlito Esposito. 6)  I knew Alexander Siddig was going to be in this show, but I completely forgot about it til he showed up on screen.  The time off since DS9 has done him good, he's no longer a tool.  I never liked the Bashir character.   7) It didn't take long for Jack to get out of his dorky hostage clothes and into the standard issue henley shirt, did it?  I'm kind of surprised he's wearing jeans.  Usually Jack wears BDUs.

some good things: 1. I loved the scene where Jack has to remember the CTU hotline number after being tortured for two years. They actually show him pause and then cut away just before he dials. 2. Assad thinks he's the bad ass but then he freezes when he sees Jack's scarred man-back. The real torture was eating nothing but rice while in captivity. 3. Dana from Friday talks down Cyril O'Reily from OZ, but then he comes back and blows her off. I always liked Ryan O'Reily better, but this one will do.4. I also loved when half of the viewers were poking the secret "bundle of nerves" that Jack was stabbed in to see what a bundle of nerves feels like.

Anyone going to buy the Season 6 Premiere DVD tomorrow?It's $13 at Circuit City.  I paid $16/$20* for the Full Season 4 and 5* DVD sets on Black Friday/Post Christmas* at Target/Bestbuy* so I'm not too excited to pay for 4¼ episodes.*I realized that I only got Season 4 during Black Firday, Season 5 wasn't out yet but it did go on sale at Bestbuy during the week of Christmas.

Wasn't the civilian father also the foster father of john connor in terminator 2? he seems to get douche bag father roles, what the hell, at least he's a working actor. Re the nuke blast: in real life, if jack is close enough to see the mushroom, then he would be toast within 3 weeks, teeth falling out, etc...also, no stun grenades when approaching? the nuke device would not have been affected, and they would have momentarily gained the upper hand. you just gotta suspend that disbelief constantly, otherwise the remote would be thrown through the tv out of exasperation for reality.....

I think - I'm not sure - that D. Palmer was the 44th president.  As Bush at the time was 43, it puts the show's first season around 2004.If Palmer served 4 years, then the Keeler-Logan-Gardner administration was 4 years, that means the current season (after an election and inauguration) would make it 2013.

Anyone else think it was a little odd that Fox is offering a DVD already of the first 4 episodes?  I hope they don't do that every 4 episodes, because that'll mean someone out there has the episodes before they air & they will be available before airdate, 4 weeks at a time.  I'll be downloading them, and watching them ahead of time, and then having to wait another 4 weeks before I see something new.  I wish I could say that I had enough will power not to download the episodes, but I know I would only be kidding myself.

The timeline I posted does put David Palmer being elected in November 2002 and dropping out before the election for his second term at the end of Season 3 (one month before November 2006) which puts the Presidential elections in the correct month but wrong year.Karen Hayes said Jack's been in Prison in China for 20 months (the Chinese guy said nearly 2 years). The other seasons started with title cards that put them 18 months or 3 years past the previous season, so I'm not sure why they put Wayne Palmer's inauguration 3 months prior to day 6 (It should be January) I don't see how that ties into the story and why they didn't just make it 5 Months which would put Wayne's election on November 2010 (John Keeler's Term in office would then be Jan 2007-Dec 2010, which Charles Logan took over during 24's Season 4, and Hal Gardner took over from Logan after Season 5)But yeah, they can't keep jumping forward much further without the '"current 24 time" being rediculous.

talking about the actors and what they were in before 24, meghan gallagher, the mother that called the fbi about the hostage situation played gary shandlings wife in the larry sanders show. it took a second to place her, but this i know to be true. she has really hit the freakin wall, sad to say. they did the same thing last episode with an old actress who used to be attractive, the one that got shot in the leg, robocops wife. can't remember who she was now though.

It was pretty cool that 24 was able to resist having Oval Office scenes for all this time. I found it refreshing that they didn't feel the need to for 5 years while other shows did it (West Wing, Commander in Cheif, etc)

Someone at 24 screwed up. Your timeline is correct as far as 4 year Presidential terms go. If we start at the same time (March 2002) and add the correct number of months/years as indicated at the beginning of each season (18 months between 1 and 2; 3 years between 2 and 3; 18 months between 3 and 4; 18 months between 4 and 6; 20 months between 5 and 6) then it brings us into May of 2011.They should have had Wayne in office for 5 months not 3.  Having 34 months (instead of 36 months) in between Seasons 2 and 3 would make that work. Did they mention how close the election that David Palmer dropped out of was to the Day 3(Season 3)?

I don't think there is an offical word on what year/month it is anytime during the 6 years of 24. And I totally agree with your timeline.I'm going with that same start date you mentioned (March 2002) and adding the number of months/years mentioned at the beginning of each season.This is works if California's Primary is in March and Election are in November during years that are 2 years off from real life. West Wing does the same thing, Elections are 2 years off from real life.It could be off by 2 years, moving Season 1 to March 2000 and Season 6 to 2009. But either way the 4 year Presidental Terms do not work with the time frames mentioned on the show (the 18 month/3 year later title cards at the start of each day)

Jack isn't offically working at CTU for the time that Curtis is a character who does works at CTU. There isn't some kind of long term partner bond between the two. And if that known terrorist had changed his plans and was key to stopping another active terrorist with a Nuclear Bomb you don't want him killed. And yeah, Wayne Palmer is an inferior president. He must have really played the voters with the death of his brother.

It was a very Jack-lite episode.  Personally, I think this should be added to Paul McCrane's emmy reel, because he's pulling the personality shifts that Logan did mid-season last year but on a much better level.

Jack and Graem keep mentioning Teri's Death, I wonder if The person Nina worked for (that she mentioned to Jack at the end of Season 1) is Graem or someone Graem works with/for.

Great great episode. I wont discuss any spoilers, but I have  a prediction:There's alot more to that blonde chick McDonald's running around with than meets the eye; perhaps she's fbi or kgb, some kind of government agent. Definitely more than just a floozy.

This is why I love the show:1)Jacks father kills the only possible bad guy/witness in front of him and JAck just yells at him like he took away his car keys?2) The terrorists, sophisticated as they are, are using the word "bomb" on their cell phone conversations, not knowing that NSA flags any and all inflammatory words?3) They let Jack's father walk around and then have access, un-monitored, to his son who then gets murdered by him?4) The father who is obviously capable of killing Jack, as he subsequently killed his "loyal" son, doesn't take Jack out when he has the chance? 5) Why would they go throught the whole charade of pretending to kill the father with Jack? Why not just shoot him in the van, handcuffed, then dump his body in the hole?6) Now I see why Donald Sutherland did not want this role.  Despite the obvious holes, 6 days and counting until the double shot of CTU and friends. Prediction: Regina, the president's sister, will soon be an advisor to him in the white house, and I bet they go for the tri-fecta and somehow make her the next president.

Did anyone else see the Morris angle coming? I thought that was good and will be an interesting story line...it's better than him and Milo acting childish at CTU.Jack's dad=Bad ass. So that's where he got it from. I just don't see what 'The Company' would have to gain from the nukes being set off, or was it truly a mistake and daddy is just trying to cover it up?Also, what's Mr. Vice President up to? He looked like some of his plans just got foiled when Palmer said he wouldn't sign.

Looks like Phil Bauer and Powers Booth (the new VP) are both from the "I love the US and in order to keep things right we need to have an active enemy to fight, so we'll help them hurt us so that we can act to fight them with Patriot Act type law making" school of thought. The VP is on the law making side of things while Graem, Phil, Logan, Henderson, Cummings, etc were all involved in creating fuel to justify the actions.

I think the two episodes tonight may have saved what had been a very bad season to this point.  I found myself actually excited to see what will happen next for the first time all year.  It also seemed like they cut down on the comercials a bit (but that may have just been me).The best part of this series is that Jack Bauer is quickly catching Captain Kirk in the race to see how many extras can die while the main charachter barely escapes death.  When those guys all went running into that house tonight (I think I counted six guys not including Jack), you knew only one man would walk (or jump) out alive.

I have to say last night was a good episode and I to thought Milo was gonna get killed of, but isnt it getting old about killing off the president.  Every year there is a plot to take out the president and it sure seems that its on its way there again.

Three great moments from tonight, Milo double crossing Reed and the other guy immediately to the Secret Service agents, second the Russian agreeing to contact CTU on Jack's behalf, and then third that same Russian getting popped in the back of the head.  Outstanding episode, especially since there was such little action.  Next week looks like it will be violence and action heavy, so that's good, but tonight was great.
