My best friend is a Roman Catholic, and got married on Saturday. The ceremony was held at a beautiful church in Newark, and it was a full mass. I noticed in the program that Communion was being offered.  I knew in the back of my mind that I shouldn't do it, as I am a Lutheran, but both my fiance (Catholic) and good friend (Catholic) and his wife (Prysbeterian) encouraged me to partake. I erred on the side of caution and didn't do it. Later on, I cornered the Priest of the ceremony and asked him if I did the right thing, and it turned into a very uncomfortable conversation about Vatican II, Christian Unification, and other topics.  I think I turned a 10-foot-radius around us during the cocktail hour into a cringefest. Of course, this pales in comparison to the last wedding I went to with this circle of friends, where I stumbled over the words "Goof" and "Mook" in talking to a friend who is of Vietnamese descent.

I went to a Lutheran service and they had something that looked like communion (I'm Catholic). But I didn't do it then.

Please.  I've taken Catholic Communion before, I wasn't impressed.  If they want people to show up, they should really add Nacho or BBQ flavor to Christ's flesh.I thought the son of God would have been zesty.

The only reason I didn't do it at the Lutheran service is because "I didn't have to." I know how weird that is, but I was with a Jewish friend who wasn't about to do it either so it was probably also a little peer pressure.

In the catholic church it's considered one of the seven sacraments and the most holy because it's truly the body of christ.  According to that rediculous institution my brother and I could go to hell for taking it on Easter and Christmas mass when we go to not break our mom's heart because we haven't been to confession and taking communion without having been to confession is a no no.  Plus we don't go to church and are fallen catholics, so I guess we're going to hell according to them anyway.

I think the Catholics are the only ones that have participate or don't participate issues. The whole point of it is to renew your relationship with JC and The Man. Jesus came and did what he did for everyone not just this type or that type of practitioner. He was a big time rebel and rule breaker himself. All the little nit-picky issues are just from our messy human state. [OK sorry for being preachy, I will resume my normal wise ass posts now]

i was a little protestant boy in a catholic school. i had to attend church with the rest of the class and around 4th or 5th grade i decided i was gonna try confession.  i made up my mind that i was going to say that i stole a quarter off the washing machine.anyway i go inside, sit down and i'm not sure who spoke first but as i learned afterwards there is a procedure to it. i tried spitting out a couple times about stealing the quarter and i could sense in the priests voice he was getting a little angry.  he later talked to my nun about it and i never went in again.and i did try the eucharist once

Here's the deal RE: the Eucharist in Catholicism and Lutheranism (as I was raised Lutheran but am studying to become Catholic):Catholics believe in transubstantiation, which means that the bread/waffer and wine literally transform into the Body and Blood of Christ.  The Eucharist is a miracle and a true sharing of the essence of God.Lutherans believe that the Eucharist is symbolic of the Body and Blood of Christ.  We do as Christ did at the Last Supper in rememberance of who Christ was and what He gave to mankind.That is why Lutherans/most protestants don't mind those of other faiths sharing in the Eucharist; it is a symbolic act.  Whereas Catholics believe it is a pure Sacrament that should only be shared by those who completely understtand the significance of the act.Sorry to bring down the room, but there you go.

I was raised catholic but now I am agnostic. You should have taken that piece of round pressed bread, because that’s all it is, plus if your so worried about going to hell because of that then you should change to being catholic since Catholics are the only ones going to heaven and the rest are going to hell. Religion is so funny, they all say follow our religion or you going to hell. Well that would mean only one religion is right and the rest of the world will all go to hell. If this is true then there are more people in hell, plus all Catholics do not follow everything the way they are suppose to so those Catholics will go to hell too. Just live you life, be a good person, don’t kill, steal and all that shit and you will go to heaven if there is a heaven.
