They rocked! It was a weird
"goth" version of "Laugh In"
with music.

-----
I wish I loved the human race;
I wish I loved its silly face;
I wish I liked the way it
walks; I wish I liked the way
it talks; And when I'm
intoduced to one; I wish I
thought, What jolly fun!

Great show Alice!
The Groovie Goolies were originally paired with Sabrina the Teenage Witch on Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies, which aired during the 1970-71 season, before spinning off into this show in the fall of '71. The series starred Tom Drac, the proprietor of a boarding house called Horrible Hall, and his creepy family-wife Hagatha, son Frankie, pet cat Salem and pet dinosaur Rover. Hagatha also owned a living broom named Broom Hilda, which swept up all sorts of mischief.

Drac's boarders were also of the ghoulish variety-Wolfie the Wolfman, the Thing-Eating Plant, the two-headed Dr. Jekyll/Hyde, switchboard operator Bella La Ghostly, the disembodied Ghoulihand, Orville Mummy, the Ask-it Casket, skeleton Napoleon Boneapart, Ratzo and Batzo the vampire twins, and many other manic monsters. Each week the show would close with a joke wall segment, much like the one on nighttime variety show Laugh-In. The Goolies also played instruments and sang a song on every show.

True to the undead nature of most of its characters, The Groovie Goolies resurfaced a full three years after it had initially gone off the air. Re-debuting in 1975, the show aired for one more year before finally succumbing to the axe.

The show also ran in syndication for many years under the title Groovie Goolies and Friends. Along with the double G's, this show featured such segments as Lassie's Rescue Rangers, My Favorite Martians, The New Adventures of Gilligan, The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty, and Uncle Croc's Block. Ironically, Uncle Croc's Block was the show the Goolies replaced when they were brought back by ABC in '75.
