for my long awaited tenth post, i will write about the message board, the show, and the beginning of the end of a once strong symbiotic relationship.
the ron and fez dot com show debuted in new york, around this time last year, to slight fan fare. "who are these guys and why are they here and what is this internet thingy i've been reading about?" asked admiral stockdale in one particular newspaper article about the new show. well, these were cool people and they had a funny/nice/innovative show and it was fun listening to it.
and in december, radio history was made. dozens of people each night began flocking to the "Baby Nicole" room on AOL Arts and Entertainment. the concept: radio listeners communicating amongst themselves in an internet chatroom. the results: national pride... the bar in talk radio was raised!
eventually, the dot com was dropped and the show moved to middays. this alienated the late night show's core slash fundamental audience: high and non high teenagers crossing sexual, racial, and economic lines... they had to be in school; they could not listen to the show (of course, some of us stayed up all night and listened to the show @ 2AM).
finally, opie and anthony got their syndication deal and don and mike got revenge (on new york): they demanded and got the coveted midday spot. ron and fez were inclined to make their third (and hopefully last) move to 7PM to 11PM. if anything, the show's original core audience got their show back.
on september 11th, cowardly terrorist attacked our country.
and just two weeks ago, eggers decided to post on the ronfez.net message board (its true that he turned down an offer from opie and anthony to post on their foundry music message board in exchange for britney spears and another virgin to be named later). but it wasn't eggers who changed things! ronfez.net thrived before him and without him; the message board had just succesfully undertaken the UWS bar crawl and ronfez.net star melissa was getting major on-air time due to the fact the no one knows how much she needs it.
well, the UWS bar crawl was followed by the TriBeCa bar crawl and the West Village bar crawl, just this past friday (the most succesful one yet -- from what i hear -- i'm like joe poo, i'm pretty much scared of being around other people -- i think that its called claustraphobia but i'm not really sure).
so, to make a long story short, ronfez.net has become, like it or do not like it, bigger than the show. in fact, i think that the show is beginning to feed too much on us. i cite the case of viacom and cbs. there was cbs that had this innovative division called viacom. so that the titans wouldn't clash, cbs had to spin off viacom. and two years ago, viacom acquired cbs. and what does this have to do with the show and this message board? not much really, except that the situations are similar. ron and fez grew us, sure. like joe poo is joe jr.'s father, ron and fez was the father of the ronfez.net message board. then, for a while, the relationship became symbiotic - like a shark and ramora, we needed each other to make each other better.
but things have changed and it should be pointed out. we have become bigger than the show. ron and fez should stop feeding on us. they should spin us off (i have a friend at an investment bank who can write up a deal). we are strong enough to sustain ourselves to improve the world on a grand scale.
go ronfez.net!:):)
thank you, good luck, and god bless america,

... and as of yesterday, i'm technically no longer a virgin!
