www.guitarists.net is probably the best site for what you're looking for. There's plenty of tips, tricks, and tablature there to get you going.

You can find an online guitar tuner here.

Fender like Z and Ludwig are the only way to go but Hagstrom has a thin neck and very low fret boards correct boys

My wife brought this up out of the blue the other day. After nearly 12 years of knowing each other, she told me for the first time that she has always wanted to learn the guitar. Not to perform or anything, just to sort of screw around with it and see where it goes.

I couldn't believe it, because I have always felt the same way -- and never said anything about it.

So where do I go from here? I'd like to pick one up for Christmas and the two of us can try it out together. I've never had a musical bone in my body but would love to explore it. She took piano lessons as a child. I'm not interested in putting the entire farm into this new hobby so I might be looking for used equipment. Should I go electric or acoustic? How do I know if the used equipment I may be looking at is garbage or not? I'm a lefty and she's a righty, so do we have to take seperate lessons?

I have this vision that the two of us will be able to do something fun together that doesn't involve television or foreplay.

Trying to play a right-handed guitar left-handed will result in all the strings being upside down.

You can get fairly decent electric and/or acoustic guitars for under $250. Ask the salesperson at a reputable place to make sure you're not getting a piece of shit. Also, what a guitar snob will call a piece of shit is often a perfectly fine instrument to learn on.

As far as starting with an electric or an acoustic - the electric will be far easier to play because the strings are a lighter gage and they're closer to the fretboard. However, the electric has obvious drawbacks - always needing an amp and electricity is the major one. The acoustic can be played anywhere, anytime, and although it's harder on the hands and fingers, it makes switching to an electric later on that much easier.

i said MPAA instead of RIAA, couple of bong hits they are both the same. either way a C+D from one or the other usually means problems.
