I think he/she would still have a successful career today.&nbsp; Like too many other people, he paid a price for his over-indulgences.

<p>I actually (unknowingly) saw HAIRSPRAY the day he died. And, yes, HE was a HE - when he was in drag, he only played women's roles, but every once and awhile he played a dude, like in FEMALE TROUBLE when he raped himself. I have that movie poster signed by him. </p><p>FEMALE TROUBLE was one of his best roles; so many ideas from that movie, that seemed shocking then, seem commonplace now - I would have loved to have seen Divine in DESPERATE LIVING - PINK FLAMINGOS is still a movie I have issues with (is it gay porn? is it beastiality porn? is it egg porn?!)</p><p>Edith &amp; Divine - who knows what kind of stardom the two of them could have gotten if they had been around long. </p>
