apologize-aa if a similar thread already exists, I'm on dial-up and don't have the patience to search thoroughly (sic)...

I
just listened to "Five years" from Bowie, and after Ron and Fez played
it for 9-11-06 it just breaks me down. I'm a pretty empathetic
person but very few songs get to me like that, another one of the few
being "Pair of Brown Eyes" from the Pogues (who I'm going to see this
Friday!).

What song does it to you?

From the other thread:

narc wrote:
I'm not talking about because they suck or you hate them. We've all sat through bad songs before. It's not that big a chore.

I'm talking about songs that you can't listen to anymore because they
just get to you. Like for example, I can't listen to certain REM songs
anymore because I associate them with a certain person. Yet, tonight, I
was reading the lyrics and misting up a little.

Specifically, I used to own "Up" but I had to sell it because I just
couldn't deal. I also don't think I could make it through the song
"Country Feedback." I can still also barely make it through "A
Reminder" and "Lucky" by Radiohead. Ditto for "Letter for Elise" by The
Cure.

Ghost Town by The Specials...

My buddy Gregg and I were listening to it one night in '81 with a huge pile of blow in front of us. All of a sudden there's banging on the door and we hear, "Police!.. This is a bust!.. Open the door NOW!" What the hell could we do? Gregg dumps all the coke down the toilet to get rid of the evidence. I open the door to find that it's only our other friend Joe just fuckin' with us. Well, when Gregg realizes that Joe just cost us a fortune he stabs him in the throat with a butcher knife. Long story short, I lost two friends on that evening... One to prison and the other to the grave.

Everytime I hear "Ghost Town," the memory of the amount of coke I lost that night comes flooding back and I get a little choked up (NO HOMO!).

I feel like half a fag for saying it, but Avril Lavigne's Broken Inside makes me cry like a baby every time I hear it.

It is entirely because I don't ever want my five year old daughter to ever experience the feelings conveyed in the song. A confused, adolescent hopelessness that seems unbearable. My son, I can handle- been there done that, I can remember what happens in a teen age boys head. But my daughter, I'm gonna need some help. I think that no matter how independent you raise them to be, there comes a time in every girls life when they place an inordinant amount of reliance on their peers' opinions for their own sense of self-worth. And you women are cruel, hateful, hard-hearted bitches when it comes to how you treat each other at that age. That is, when you want to be. I haven't yet figured out how I am going to help her through that time of her life, but I can't deal with the thought of her ever feeling as hopeless as this song sounds.

There. Half a fag moment over.

I'm 38 and grew up with 4 older brothers/hippie/rebels that are now in their 50's. They turned me on to many great tunes at a young age.

Earl plays many of those songs I haven't listened to in many years.

Since last week I can't listen to Tumbleweed Connection enough, or Warren Zevon's The Wind.

I've always been a big Zevon guy, and listening to the words, knowing it is his last album slaughters me.
