He never really knew his real father and he was adopted by the Allan family, who were relatives of his I think on his mom's side. So he decided to use their name, even though he hated Mr. Allan, who eventually disowned him. Somewhere along the line it got mispelled, but he went with it.  My high school didn't do this. I am glad.
