The Cincinnati Reds are the only team I root for that have never let me down. I've seen them go to the World Series 3 times in my life and win all three. Their sweep of the Yankees in 1976 was extremely gratifying, as was the sweep of the mighty Oakland A's in 1990.

My most enjoyable moment sports moment, though, has to be the 1997 Red Wings sweeping the Philadelphia Flyers and winning the Stanley Cup. 2 years previous I had to witness my Wings getting swept by the hated New Jersey Devils. When that happened I was thoroughly convinced I'd never see Detroit win the Cup in my lifetime. I actually shed a tear when time expired and they were champions. I loved the 1998 Stanley Cup win, (and the one in 2002), but that first one was an incredible moment.

My father's friend was the Maitre 'D at the Diamond club and he got me into the stadium, then made arrangements with an Usher to get me a seat and keep an eye on me. I was 11 at the time. Can you imagine that happening today??!! I was sitting in the Loge section (right near the Diamond Club of course), and when the fight broke out everyone stood up and towered above me. As I stood on my seat trying to see the action I asked the guy sitting next to me what happened and he said, "Pete Rose is beating up Bud Harrelson!" I said, "Hey, he can't do that!" Boy was I naive! Later in the game someone in the left field stands threw a gallon wine jug (among other things) at Rose. The umps said the game would be forfeited if the crowd didn't stop throwing stuff. Yogi Berra, Rusty Staub and Willie Mays came out and Pleaded with the fans in the left field stands to stop throwing stuff. The game continued and the Mets won 9-3, eventually taking out the heavily favored Big Red Machine in 5 games. I remember the whole thing like it was yesterday.
