Fuzzy's post in the Monster Found thread made me think of this. What
were your favorite books when you were a kid? I need to build up a collection
for my daughter so I need suggestions.
Here are a few of mine:

Where the Wild Things Are

Cat in the Hat (actually any Dr. Seuss)

Nancy Drew mysteries

Damn, I still read children's books.

My personal favorites.

Danny Champion of the World - Roald Dahl, but anything by Roald Dahl is good. I'm also kinda partial to Fantastik Mr. Fox. But he also wrote, Charlie and the Chocolate Factore, The BFG, The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda. Some really good stuff.

The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exup‚ry, but the themes of this are a little adult.

The Phantom Tollbooth - Norton Juster. I love this book, because it mixes in math and stuff. The man who counted too by Malba Tahan is good too if you are a math geek.

Any Book in the Artemis Fowl Series by Eoin Colfer but that may be considered young adult. But the stories are really good.

Anything by Shel Silverstein

The Chronicles of Narnia is great, by C.S. Lewis, if you don't mind the underlying religious themes.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst

And probably the best of all time,

Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. It's some bad ass shit.

George 'story of a little ghost' - our grammar school had it in the library. it's tough to find now, i couldn't find it online anywhere but found it at a library in one of the towns near where i live.

He's a little ghost who lives in a house with an old couple. The doors squeak, the stairs creak, and the shudders bang and George is very happy. Then one day the old man decides to fix all squeaks and creaks and bangs and it doesn't feel like home anymore for George so he runs away.

For a long time George is unable to find a comfortable home. He decides to revisit his old home and enough time has past where all of the squeaks, creaks, and bangs have come back and he is now so happy to be back in his first home.

awwwww! ain't that sweet

loved the original Babar book as well. especially when he was wearing a suit and the Five Chinese Brothers
