There seem to be a lot of promising new shows this fall. It actually seems like one of the best fall lineups in recent memory. Which is your favorite so far:

I would of putting Justice on the list but I thought the show was unwatchable. The acting was terrible and everyone seemed to be rushing through their lines. The lead actor, the guy who runs the law firm, is particularly bad. And the plot lines, at least in the first 2 episodes, were terrible.

about justice im not a giant fan of it especially the pilot, they shouldve revealed that the guy killeed his wife it wouldve been more poignant. but Said hes the fuckin man a magnificent actor. i watch the show just for him.

and it was tough between dexter friday night lights and heroes, but im going with friday night lights because well football i smy religion.

and tv finally has me back after cancelling angel i wouldnt watch a tv show wiht any kind of regularity outside of southpark since the impromptu cancelling. and i still wont ever eatch a wb show ever again. but nbc they have something special going.

studio 60 is good. but i feel like it's missing something. Maybe it's good sketches like Ronnie said. I know its not about the show but its about the behind the scenese of the show. But it would help if they committed to really good comedy sketches. Make you understand what all the hoopla is about.

so i voted for heroes.

i'm gonna try to check out dexter this weekend.

I've only seen 3: Smith, Shark and Studio 60. I've got to go with Smith. It has the characters and plot line that I'm most interested in. I was never a big West Wing person, so Studio 60 isn't my cup of tea. Shark is a dissapointment. It's not a terrible show but just blah.

I voted for Kidnapped, even though there are 4 others that I really like as well.

This whole cancellation thing is really starting to get on my nerves though. They keep getting rid of good shows, but keep utter dreck like Wife Swap and Super Nanny on. Plus, what is so hard about allowing a cancelled show to run through the full season? What are they gonna do, put on some reruns that won't be viewed either? Yeah, that makes sense. Just leave the goddamn shows on and maybe they might actually pick up some viewers. God forbid they give these shows a chance before pulling the plug.

"We've determined that after only two weeks, this show is not getting the ratings we expected. I've watched kidnapped every week so far, yet, I think I hate it. Nothing ever happens. I love jeremy Sisto. (I even watched that piece of shit paranoia 2.0). i hate Dana Delaney on the show. I think the show actually angers me. I think i'm only glad its cancelled so that I dont have to worry about watching another damn show this season.

Studio 60 is very nice. I know the sketches aren't that good, but that could be on purpose - after all it would be a little strange and out-of-balance if we the audience enjoyed and/or laughed at the "sketches" more than the show proper.

The problems with Studio 60 imo:

1. There's no warm character to really latch onto. I dig all the characters a lot and the relationships - but there's no one that brings me into the show. If you think about a show like "Lost" there are a lot of characters who bring you in - Hurley, Sawyer, Locke.

2. Matt Albie and Danny Tripp are too cool for school. They're already running the joint like Kings, and treating everyone like crap. Which I kind of like...but...There's no real adversity other than Nielsen ratings. It would be much more "winning" if Albie and Tripp had some obstacles other than an old girlfriend and a seemingly dead coke habit. Like - maybe they aren't known as the "best team" in the universe. Maybe they have to rise to the occasion. Maybe they struggle to pull it off.

3. Just call it Studio 60. Not that the "on the Sunset Strip" part of the title is bringing it down...but throw some shite off the plane for the love of pete.

And I agree about the irritatingness of early cancelations.

i love studio 60. it is my show. I enjoy watching what is going on with these people. i do think that if the skits were funnier it would then become a skit show and not what it is. i also think that if the skits were funnier than NBC would be telling to write more skits and less storyline.
This show is like ground hogs day but instead of a comedy its action based. The previews look really good

I voted Friday Night Lights. Dexter is good too.

Haven't seen the other ones except 15 painful minutes of the Kidnapped pilot. God that show sucked.

Sorry

I have to pop in here for a sec and get this out.

First off so far...Class, Smith, Kidnapped are cancelled. There are a few morei think but cant remember

Love Shark and Studio 60. Thought the Tina Fey one, the Rock or whatever waspretty bad.....they are trying too hard and itsa bit too inside, and since when is the head writeer in charge of a whole TV show? small point

Shark is great cause James Woods is. He developed a great character...bad guy past and connections, bood guy now and Geri Ryan as his boss.....Some kind of Star Trk show, where she was 7 or 7 of 9 or something....damn shes smokingOK...Studio 60. great show, great premise and cast. Ed Asnewr on Down

I don't know if it is so obvious that the guy and guys from West Wing AAron Sorking wrote this,, very familiar traits. the fast talking and repeat of lines. like.....you had her boot signed..why dont you go haveher boot signed..new guy comes over......I know go to the Dolls or cars show and...they all say get the bot signed or something similar.....very West Wing, but your right.....no Martin Sheen character yet...a centerpoint.

A better and exact example of the Weat Wing touch was when the old Josh Character bursts into the room and says yes thats right, I failed a test for caine and cannot direct for 18 months that I'm clean and than defends Matthew Perry. At the end Steven Weber I think it was him says, thanks for that info, but we didnt know that and weren't talking about it, as Matthew Perry just gets there

(may not be 100% factual but close)

This gives a good luch that I can farely say as truth, almost every comic or writer grew up as SNL as their goal.

MY problem is the writing but from another aspect. Put aside its me for a sec asI dont write funny shit anyway.

They have a whole writing room, with those 2 guys Ron and Ron earning 30 g's an episode and not being used.

You have 1 guy....1 guy who writes a 90 minute sketch show and news segment every week by himself.

I cant think of many exec's who would stand for that....what if he gesor does something and cant do it...al of a sudden the writers room springs to life...if most of them are still there. they get paid well...but not if they arent being used.

OK...mabye once in an emergency, but it is very hard to fathom. Hey mayber I just suck so bad Thats why I cant picture it

Seriously...that is a hell of a lot of writing every week, every day. Josh(?) says the Matthew Perry character isnt used to working with people. Well he must have been when he was a writer in the room before he left and don't know how but became famous with Josh.

The writers room is a tough place and you have to fight for your shit, and can be fun, yet very vicious. Someone I know who worked in there said at times people would do stuff to destroy other peole scripts, like giving bad reads on purpose to get their stuff on instead.

This person I knew, called it....elementary school with cigarettes.

so far, a room full of some of the best comedy writers only get a 90 second spot so far in all the episodes.

yeah I know we did 4 hous a night, 5 days a week.....But it isnt the same. Radio gives you a little more freedom to improv, BS, change subjects....while TC is timed to th sec with Chryo's graphics, sets etc. you can make your case for both. But I guess in terms of writng...a whole room of peole to wite 1 90 minute show a week.....yeah thats easier I think, since all the other stuff isnt their problem.

Last Point...where are all the just out of school writeers that seem to be the ones who gt hired for these comedy shows. Ron and some of you know what I mean. I don't get it, unless its the demo thing...its the demo we want so we hire writers from that demo cause if you are god for bid older, no way you can write younger (

When did this crap start where they would cancel shows after a couple of weeks? Have we become such an immediate gratification society that we can't even give a TV show half a season to get it's legs? This is insane! "Smith" was pulled after two episodes! How crazy is that? Studio 60 has been critically acclaimed, and yet they're giving up on it after seven or eight shows??!?! Don't they pour a ton of money into these shows just to get them on the air? If this mindset had prevailed in the past there are three shows that I can think of that never would have seen a second season... "M*A*S*H," "Cheers" and "Seinfeld." All three of these shows had very poor ratings in their first season (or two!), yet the networks had enough faith in the projects to give them some slack. In reward, every one of these shows turned into mega-hits! How can it be so hard to give "Smith" or "Studio 60" 10 or 15 weeks to see what they can do? What are they gonna be replaced with, repeats of "Dancing with the Stars?"
