View Full Version : 30 DAYS OF NIGHT - Another 2007 Adaptation

With all of the talk today of FANTASTIC FOUR and IRON MAN, I thought I'd go ahead and start a thread about the Sam Raimi produced adaptation of my new best buddy Steve Niles' spooky comic book epic - 30 DAYS OF NIGHT.

Niles is from D.C., and worked at a local comic shop here in D.C. back in the 1980s, right as his indie book FLY IN MY EYE hit - one of my favorites. His big time Big Deal now. He's collaborated with Rob Zombie; Clive Barker has written the introductions to 30 DAYS; Count Gore De Vol (a childhood inspiration of his) wrote the intro to ALEISTER ARCANE (a comic about a horror host); and his new take on THE CREEPER for DC Comics is one of the so called "hot" titles right now.

Anyway...30 DAYS OF NIGHT...David Slade ("Hard Candy" - YIKES!) directs - Josh Hartnett (”Lucky Number Slevin,” “Black Hawk Down”) and Danny Huston (“The Proposition,” “The Aviator”) star along with a very strong ensemble. It's set to be released October 2007 - I would love for this to pop - as much as I love my zombies, it's time for vampires to make a comeback, and it's REALLY time for an actual scary vampire story.

What is the premise of "30 Days of Nights?" I've heard the title before, but don't know anything about it other than the story deals with vampires.

EDIT: OK, I quit being lazy and looked up a synopsis

This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction. Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction.
[/quote]
What frustrates me is that I had virtually the same Idea when I was in college - about vampires "living it up" in Alaska during the weeks/months of extended nights. Oh well - guess I should have written it. Now I'm even MORE interested in reading Niles vision of the premise.

I thought I heard that this was originally a movie script that noone wanted to buy, so it got turned into a graphic novel instead, which was then optioned for a movie script. I dont know if thats true or just a rumor cus its really ironic.

Anyway, I wasnt too into this book when I read it and seeing the name Josh Hartnett on dark horizons a few months ago didnt do anything to help me out. Although I do think itll make a better movie than book because the action and gore will be more present. The was this book was drawn was a real turn off for me.

Id be down for a Powers movie.
