XM losing another hour of the O/A show to Free FM? [Archive]

I love O&A XM show and would be disapointed if this is true but...I also like that O&A are getting the chance to be on top again.  I think O&A know how much they need XM and the uncencored and national audience.  My dream would be another hour of R&F and the Lazlow show on 202 on the weekends!Bottem line is that O&A want the balence of a good show and a wide reaching show, if it puts bucks in their pocket,good for them.  I think they know their best stuff will always depend on their XM show.  They will lose their edge if they went 100% terestial.  I'm happy no matter what and as long as I have the budays on XM it's all gravy!

The problem is the 10 minute breaks every half hour. And I've noticed that the segments on the XM part of the show seem to be getting shorter too.

Here's what I found very odd...O & A BLASTED free fm radio during the whole first year on XM - including saying how great XM is yada yada yada.Now they tell listeners to listen to the local FREE FM station instead of XM?!?!?! I heard this last week when someone from Pitt called in and said he was listening on XM. Opie told the guy to switch over! Granted the listener has already paid his sub. fee - so the fact that he does not listen on XM is meaningless as far as revenue goes, but this seems odd.Also XM advertises on the free fm show. I don't understand this either. Free FM is in effect telling listeners to tune away!?!?!?!? I remember Anthony brought this up years ago when they were still on WNEW (and WNEW was running XM ads). The WNEW brass claimed that satellite radio was just a fad and would never replace "regular radio".

The reasons I'd still NEED XM:Ron and Fez and replays of O&A.  It's so easy on my Inno.  I personally don't care about the number of hours O&A are allowed to curse.  FreeFM doesn't allow me to record (easily) and listen to both of them all the time and on weekends.  I wonder if R&F do any terrestrial radio again that the same people will say that they are selling out.  I'm very interested in double standards.  I like to be fair and honest.  I know Ron said he couldn't go back, but it's something to keep an eye on.

I'm real tired of guys who know nothing about radio and say Opie brings nothing. I worked in radio for a few years, and my brother is still struggling at it after toiling for 15 years and still making less than 30K (currently in his 10th year at a station in N.C. acting as News Director, Sports Director, Morning Show Host and Sports Play-By-Play man for three sports). It's a very hard business to make any money in. Opie started at the very bottom and single-handedly built this show from a dream. Even though Ant and Norton are the funny guys up front, Opie keeps the wheels turning. As for the JV and Elvis thing... I really trie d to like the show, but it's only average. I leave it on sometimes at work, but often switch to WFAN until I start listening to O&A and R&F on the MyFi from the previous day. I really think the end could be near for JV and Elvis. Wouldn't be interesting if Ron and Fez slipped in and did a Free-FM/XM simulcast from 10-2? Ron just mentioned the other day that he doesn't worry about what words he can't say, as he's worked for years in the censored media. Their show does not rely on explicit content nearly as much as O&A's does. I always liked when Ronny would use terms like "sippin' the 'D'" on commercial radio. It would be interesting to see them get another shot at syndication. I really think they're the most underrated radio show on the air anywhere. They're ten times better than JV and Elvis. CBS would be wise to Get O&A, R&F and The Hideout together in some kind of package deal, like O&A in morning drive. The Hideout in middays and R&F in afternoon drive. What a lineup that would be!

MikeyBoy:I'm not hell bent on creating a rivalry.  I just point out when people take shots at O&A or Opie in particular, but can't be fair and honest and judge the R&F show with the same standards.  Double standards.  I'm interested to see if the same people would call R&F sell outs.  I doubt it.  That's not being genuine in my opinion.  I don't think O&A would be sellouts for doing it.  I also don't think R&F would be sell outs for doing it.

Ron also talked a lot of shit about satellite radio when it came out and even after O&A joined, so  wouldn't be surprised at all if they get a deal going like O&A's after anything he's said about "not going back."  I think he just doesn't want to go back to ONLY doing non-satellite radio.

I don't know if Free-Fm (CBS) wants to rely on satalite radio in order to run all of their talent. This is the only problem with the logic. Enlesss mmmmmmm. Could there be a CBS radio XM merger in the works? (this is not for real just speculation it has no bearing in the real world)

The only reason I listen to O&A anymore is that my choices in KC are limited...  Johnny Dare (a local who thought he would get syndicated to more than one market... I don't think syndication to Witchita, KS really counts. It was a good radio show at one time.)MancowBob and Tom (I tried to listen once... all hack)Imus (on AM... which I can't get in my car with the XM commander hooked up)A few other hacky local shows... nothing very interesting. I don't like to listen to music during my drive to work because it get's me worked up. Even listening to XM70 will get me all pissed off at people early in the morning.

when opie was talking about the extra hour on free fm, he pretty much said that  xm put the kybosh on those plans , so more than likely that aint gonna happen, as far as quality of the show well yea  xm part of the show really lost some of it's edge, but even whe they suck the most thier show is still better than any show we have here in houston radio
