for 18 months!

This all stems from leaks from the grand jury testimony of Jason Giambi and Barry Bonds. The government wants to prosecute the leakers but the only ones who know the their identities are the two reporters who refuse to testify and reveal their source. So a judge sentenced them to 18 months in jail.

We need a shield law in this country.

you know what though? they could have given up their sources and not gone to jail. instead they chose to shut their mouths and take the rap. i actually admire them for that.
I admire them, too. The problem is, if there is no shield for reporters, and reporters keep going to jail, eventually investigative journalism will cease to exist. With now investigative journalism, we'll all be doomed to the whims of corrupt businesses and governmental agencies.

I bet they dont spend a day in jail. They'll stay out on appeal, and either get pardoned by Bush or get it overturned on appeals.

BTW-Nothing makes me happier than seeing a nerdy journalist in the slammer. Arrest Dan Rather too while you're at it for lying to the American public for 30 years.
