I hate to say it, because I think she's the flat out hottest, sexiest actresses in Hollywood. But Scarlett Johannson pretty much sucks in everything she's done since Lost in Translation. And she was good, not great in that.

She really cant act much. I rarely find her convincing.

LOOOOOOVE DAT RACK, though, so who cares.

Such a let down that this movie is supposed to be so bad, especially since I loved LA Confidential so much (though if they ended it with Exley(sp?) holding up his badge as the cop cars came over the hill, it might have been a perfect film). James Ellroy's "LA Quartet" of books are some of my favorites, and The Black Dhalia was the first part of it. Too bad...

I saw it last night and I also though it would be a lot better than what it was. Josh Harnett was great but Hilary Swank I think was trying too hard. very slow and not too mention confusing. I'm very very surprised because I generally have liked of all Brian DePalma's other movies. I dont know happenned?? The prewiews were actually better than the movie.

I will base my review solely on one simple detail: does Ms. Johansson get naked?

Inquiring minds want to know.

No Scarlett nakedness, although you do see some side-boobage.

I agree with the OP, this movie was no good.

This movie was a lot like scarface in that it was completely over the top. It was almost a bad parody of film noir. It was if DePalma let each actor play their character the way they wanted...without any direction. I was laughing out loud at scenes that were supposed to be (i think) high drama.

Does anyone remember if Ron asked the writer of the BD book if he liked the film? I remember Ellroy saying that the adaptation was "interesting".

Honestly I felt like I had just watched an episode of Twin Peaks...it was bizzare.

I think the writer basically said he was promoting the film, because cash is nice. At least that's what I got out of it. The writer seamed like a pretty cool guy.

This was perhaps the worst movie I've ever seen in the theater. I kept looking at my watch to see when the misery would end. People in the audience were laughing at parts that were supposed to be serious. It was crazy over the top. The acting was just really bad and no one believes Hillary Swank as a femme fetal. Eww...

On a side note, I'm one of those obsessed people with the Black Dahlia case and the way the whole thing was portrayed was obnoxious. So 2 reasons to skip this movie.

It was a mish mosh of three different stories that tied up together at the end in bad uninteresting manner. It was like they just threw darts to decide how things would end. If it wasnt for the word "fuck" the dialogue would have been a completly sleep inducing.
