Yep, it's a bit extreme for sure. I never really understood why they put them away in January, instead of just leaving them out all year.

the need to maximize 4th quarter sales outweighs any common sense

I've worked a few retail jobs, and I've noticed that they always stockup and start selling seasonal items a month or two before the season actually gets here, and start stocking up on the next season when the current one is past its peak. Like they start selling back to school stuff in the middle of summer because most people have already pruchased their grills, patio furniture, and beach stuff for the summer season.

It makes much more sense to try and maximize seasonal sales for a month or more before the actual holiday...what's the logic until waiting until the last few days or weeks to try and make extra seasonal money? That is, quite frankly, retarded business sense. And Christimas is the biggest mofo of them all, combined with all the other holidays at the time from the end of November through early January. It's the biggest retail time of the year and any smart business is going to try and capitalize on it and maximize profits, especially since one the summer starts winding down you only have rinky-dink Halloween in between. If anything, putting out Xmas shit as early as possible is uber-capitalism. If you hate it, you hate America.

You fuckin' commie.

I haven't seen Christmas decorations yet, but yesterday when I was at the supermarket I did see Halloween decorations and sales on bags of candy.

What are the odds that bags of candy purchased now will make it to Halloween, which is nearly 8 weeks away?

My wife is a silk floral designer at a home decor store. She started putting up trees and decorating them over a month ago. She is totally sick of it by the time the holiday actually arives.

Maybe this is the origin of "Christmas in July"
