View Full Version : Delgado for MVP?

I was thinking about how everyone is saying that Beltran shouldn't win MVP cause the Mets are so good. I just started thinking about Delgado. He has very good numbers especially after haveing 3 seperate slumps, and they aren't too far off of Beltrans. Why do I think Delgado should even be mentioned? He has brought this lineup toghether nicely. Without him, Beltran may not be what he is doing. He has made evryone more comfertable, and is a great leader. I just think if Jeter gets props for leading and his numbers aren't as hi as Delgados, why shouldn't Carlos.

The simple fact is that the only player who even offers up any competion to Ryan Howard is Albert Pujols. I know Mets fans have been really adamant about Beltran getting it considering a Met has not won the award, but that's just too bad. Be happy with the fact that your team is the best in the National League.

I guess I worded it wrong. I am not lobbying for either Met. I think Howard should win it, I was just wondering why no one has mentioned Delgado

Nah, I stand by the method behind my post, just wasn't really ready to get into that argument right now. If Ortiz didn't get it last year for his stats and huge hits, than Howard shouldn't even be an afterthought. I have no problem with Jeter and Beltran bc they helped their teams get to the playoffs, while Howard can't even catch a ground ball.

I Honestly Think Delgado should win the MVP. That is if Philly does not make it. If they do, then Howard wins it. But Delgado has been double for the Mets. 1 he has put up great numbers minus the avg, but who gives a shit about avg, with Delgado’s Power numbers. And also he has mentored Beltran by calming him down and just telling him to go out and play. That contributed quite a bit to Beltrans huge year this year. So yes, Delgado should be MVP.

I see both your points but how do you keep it away from Sixto Lezcano??

Delgado is a far 5th or 6th to Howard, Pujols, Cabrera, Berkman, Soriano. Each of these guys can make a strong case that they are the anchors to their team. The Astros, Cardinals, and Phillies are shit without those players. Washington is just a piece of shit, and the Marlins have good support around Cabrera but he is a great anchor in the middle of that lineup.
Problem with the a Met winning the MVP is that they are a very well-balanced team. Several players could have a legitimate claim to the award, Beltran, Reyes, Delgado, & Wright(up to the All-Star game). Howard & Pujols are standouts on their teams. Met players will end up taking votes away from each other & cancel each other out.
