I like O&A and listen to the show pretty regularly, but am i the only one who doesn't get Jimmy? I won't say he as never made me laugh, but i find him repetitive and predictable. i checked out his One Night Stand and didn't think it was that good. The weird thing is i thought he was great on Lucky Louie. The pests worship him and i just dont see it. i was wondering what you guys thought about it.

and if this shit was already posted, i apologize

I feel like we should qualify this- In my opinion, Jimmy is only funny when he's:

1. Talking.

2. Writing.

3. Walking.

4. Wearing white athletic socks with black shoes.

5. Drinking coffee.

6. Looking at things.

7. Being alive.

i think he sucks.... do I? yes very much, he says the same shit all the time, i think lucky louie blows, his stand up blows and sucked on tough crowd. If you listen to old o and a before jimmy it was much more relaxed and opie and anthony didnt act like him now they act like him almost. I dont even listen much anymore unless he's not in and i listen to the entire show. I hate him, and yes i do i think he ruined o and a, yes he did.

I find him VERY funny. I often literally LOL (sorry) at his outbursts, and when he goes on an extended rave, i think he is as good as it gets.

Yeah, he has certain "themes" he keeps going back to...maybe some find that annoying? And more "extreme" characters will always get more of a luv or hate response.

Today when a caller did the rambling without pauses thing and Norton exploded with the brilliant "Tom Hanks talking to Wilson..."......like Ron on R+F; its more a state-of-mind, concept and delivery thing.

I think he is very funny, but for a different reason than the pests. I ventured into PalTalk once and it was a bunch of Norton wannabes ruining his material. I love his movie references and his quick turns of wit. The pests seem to just like his 'get run over by a drunk driver' and kid toucher stuff. But that isn't his fault. Although they do cater to those savages. So maybe it is his fault in a way.

Norton has been relying on his Tranny joke for far too long. I don't like how he has too force his jokes to make sure O & A laugh at him. H e actually told my girlfriend once on IM that he practiceshis jokes sometimes at home the day before the show. Lucky Louie is not funny. So please stop supporting it because he is on the O & A show. I used to be the biggest Jimmy san when he first started doing the show. He was so vile and different, and he thought how I did. He just started to bug me over the past year, how he needs to be liked, and always goes over the top when he knows he is bombing. Just because three jokes were less funny than Willie Mays doesnt mean you have to say that you love sucking tranny dick. God, I guess I hate him. Oh yeah Patrice and Bill both work off of the boys better.

NOW I"LL GET OFF MY SOAP BOX

I think Jimothy Norton is one of the funniest men i have ever heard on radio. everything he says is usually stuff people think but dont have the balls to say. When the whole gang was in WYSP in Philly and he was ripping on that fat bitch, i couldnt stop laughing, i almost pissed my self. He is a comedian who is not afraid to push the perverbial "envelope". i love Jimothy and everything he has brought to the O & A show, as well as XM...and i hope he never goes away!

I loved Norton when he was a semi-regular on O&A/WNEW. He definitely enhances the show. Some of the stuff he pulls from his ass on the fly is hilarious, and the Frank The Frowner bit is gold. If you have ever seen his standup, or one of his Leno appearances, he is amazing in that element. I also thought he was the best thing on Lucky Louie as well. I get a little tired when they get into his deviate sex life, as I don't find that entertaining in the least, but they generally keep that stuff to a minimum now that they are doing the Free FM show.
Especially a chic who was a fan and only trying to get tix for their event. Jimmy is funny, I think he's at his best when he's digging into a caller or bashing himself, which is pretty much every moment. I would also like to use this time to say that Opie should never try to crack jokes because his timing is awful and his jokes are usually unfunny to begin with.

Jimmy is not only funny, but he's pretty real as well. Pretty much what you see is what you get. He returns email if it's worthy of reply. I like Vos and Bill Burr equally well. Never cared for Patrice much. My only gripe with O&A is the hypocrisy they show. I was also getting annoyed with all their Howard chatter but that's been toned down. I DON'T CARE ABOUT HOWARD! WAS JUST GETTING SICK OF HEARING ABOUT HIM ALMOST EVERY DAY. As for hypocrisy....

FREE RADIO SUCKS...But where do we sign up?

O&A SAY DAVE LETTERMAN HAS LOST HIS EDGE...But just you try to beat O&A to his cock. UGHGHGHGHHGRURRGLE. Damn Ant...Were you going for a money-shot? And by the way...All nervous were you boys? It was a big deal? No bigger than stupid human tricks...from regular folks. You pussies. "oh we're so nervous...this is so big...oh dear."

ROCK STARS ARE EATING LIKE PUSSIES NOW...ALL THIS HEALTH SHIT. THEY DON'T ACT LIKE ROCK STARS....Pass me my steel cut oatmeal, my kashi, and my dingle-berry surprise...'cause we're real "health" jocks.

WE HATE ROSIE...We love Rosie.

HILLARY COULDN'T EVEN CONTROL BILL....My wife fucked me over. Opie doesn't seem to watch as many movies either as the other two are spot on with obscure movie references that I bet most pests don't get. One time I saw on Wackbag that a pest watched 'Bad Lieutenant' because it was referenced on the show and he found it 'pretty funny' but he got bored. It isn't a comedy you stupid wanker. The best thing about Norton is that he subreferences movies like Menace II Society and Bad Lieutenant in a comedic way while acknowledging the greatness of the movie. It is a gift.

Jimmy can make me laugh but i dont think its because he is particularly funny. It's definitely edgy, and that alone is what makes you laugh at it. If Brian Regan were Darkwing Duck, Jimmy would be Negaduck. There is nothing edgy about brian , but hes probably the funniest guy on planet. Jimmy isnt funny but instead is the edgiest guy on the planet.

Basically all i'm saying is diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, aka I said nothing.

I have always found that I enjoy the Opie & Anthony show in general (and Jim Norton in particular) far more when I listen in small doses.
This thread is about Norton but I have to say that Ant is the most talented on 202. His impersonations get him the overall talent title. His political rants are ridiculous though. They call him professor Anthony, but he's obviously not a professor of political science.

That being said...Ron is the funniest, quickest, and most clever on 202. Bennington is money. I don't know where he comes up with his lines. Maybe his past use of...Ron Bennington is not only quick but he generally nails it...whatever the topic. He operates on a whole different level than anyone else on 202. And he all but carries his show. I don't think anyone on O&A could pull that off on their best day. Opie has in the past but now?

Comparing the two shows is like comparing a power hitter with one that hits for average and then power. I'll admit I may have a few more big laughs with O&A on some days but they often stir up a mighty breeze with their misses...including Norton. Steve from Yellowstone vs. Frank the Frowner or FRRRRUNKIS BOY? Actually it happens a lot. And when they stir up a breeze I can't get the stink out of my nostrils without leaving the room. And just look at the parade of comics they have on. It's almost like they have their own all-star team to draw from. Ron and Fez? Consistent...funny. And they're capable of knocking it out of the park at anytime. A smarter show. And I'm betting they only have a fraction of O&A's resources. That's why, when I only had a recording capacity of 5 hours on my MYFI, it went something like 3 hours...Ron/Fez, and O&A competing for the remaining 2 hours with Dylan's THEME TIME and other shows. I now have a INNO and I don't even bother with O&A when forced to record. I do still listen live though.

I think XMers are fortunate to have both shows. I had the XM for a good while when there was hardly any good talk. I ended up listening to Air America for talk and it was getting depressing (Franken aside...sometimes). With all the rumors constantly flying around I hope 202 remains as is...for a great while. But if I had to choose right now? I'd say Ron and Fez is the better show. And I'm betting XM is getting a real bargain with them. Maybe it all evens out with the PR O&A get for XM. Maybe that balances the ledger. But I'm betting Ron and Fez is the real bargain.

yes like the other day's rant on how movie theater's suck, or the "have you, does it, etc bit, or the interupted talker bit) - but Anthony shines when Jimmy's not there - just look at the Letterman appearance. I think Ant's been sitting back too much lately when Jimmy's in studio.

this of course doesnt compare to the comedic god Mr B.

Gvac, that article is great.

What's really been bothering me lately is Jimmy's gimmick to talk over people so that he can set up the interruption bit, "Oh, you know better than me, go ahead."
You ever meet the new guy at work/school who seems like a cool/fun guy to hang out with and then after he gets comfortable around everyone he becomes annoying and unfun to be around? That's what I feel has happened to Jimmy.

When he was still a regular guest on O&A he would SLAY every single time. Go back and listen to the show where he first called in with Dice. Even that was funny. Back before he was so fat and happy on the O&A show he was my FAVORITE part of the entire program. You got all the funny. All the wild jokes and crazy stories, but none of the rambling bullshit. None of the "annoying is funny (or you don't get the bit)" None of the pure bile coming out of him for whole breaks at a time.

I think his negativity and "annoying is funny" stuff HAS rubbed off on the boys, but in a different way. Back when Jimmy was new to the show (and up until quite recently) O&A would be doing a show and he would come out with some "die of AIDS" line and shock everyone in the room along with all of us. Now O&A will pile on and try to one up him or bring up some other played out shit.

He has become more than 3rd mic. He's become 3rd host and that's not where he's funniest.

Every comedian that's on the show has strengths and weaknesses.

Bill Burr has some shows where he just slays the whole time and others where he's just there, but when he's just there he's not bringing down the show.

Patrice is always upbeat and can actually take the conversation down another path that is interesting to listen to, but he enjoys it SO much that he is much better suited for XM where they can go long. He is always bringing things into break and then they go through it during break and come back to something totally different when I wanted to keep hearing what they were talking about before..

Colin is negative as shit, but when he does it, it still feels like it's in jest and doesn't bring everyone down. Problem with Colin is that he's NEVER on the show anymore. I was shocked to hear him at the halloween party.

Fucking Vos is one of the most talented comedians on the show, but he's a slobbering mess on the radio. I love when he's on, but when the show is beating each other up he has no chance due to his speach issues and shit. I didn't even think he was that funny until I watched some of his videos on youtube, but now I'm a fan in a big big way.

Jimmy's strength is being the awkward and vulnerable outsider who we can relate to with his girl trouble, physical image, etc etc etc. As the cocky, caller smashing, annoying as fuck, 3rd host... He's losing a fan that loved him.

He would probably react just the way you wrote in your post. I realize that is not the point behind your post, just an observation. Of course he's not going to be on all the time, but I think he really adds something to the show. The way that he and Ant play off one another is excellent.

It would take time to know for sure, but I don't think the boys would be as comfortable and work as well with Patrice or Vos. If Vos was 3rd mic, people would complain that all they do is bash him all the time.

If Patrice or Vos were on every day, their act would probably wear thin at times, too. I couldn't imagine listening to Vos day after day. The negativity vibe is not my favorite thing either, but Jimmy more than makes up for any shortcomings with his rapier-like wit and mature man musk.

Having had the priviledge of witnessing his comedy in person at the Stress Factory, I have to say that Jim Norton is one of the best comedians to take the stage today. I was actually tongue-tied when I asked for him to autograph my Norton CD- I said something like 'great show' and he just stared at me with a look that tenderly whispered 'I hate your guts'. Awwww. I think everyone has their pros and cons on any radio show. If you really want, I could do a full-fledged checklist and explanation of what I hate about Jim and Opie and Anthony and Mother Theresa and what I love about them. But then again, I don't really want to do something so time-consuming. So here's a very truncated version of that.

When the boys get self-righteous and complain about something that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, that bores the hell out of me. I used to love it, but it's become a cliche at this point to hear them savaging the news every day whenever a tragedy happens and the news takes a spin on it. I agree that the news is a joke compared to the days of Cronkite, but it gets beaten into the ground. Which is fine, I just mute the radio and turn it on later. It's their show, and other people love it. God bless.

I think bitterness is an interesting thing to implement in radio, but it has its limitations and can actually alienate folks who otherwise would completely love everything you said. Though, O&A do advertise themselves as the only show that tries to make you hate them. Jim Norton is just one of many who goes on those self-righteous banters sometimes, and I think he's a genuine asshole at times. Other times he's an avant-garde savant. I love his political stances most of the time- mainly because they are in line with my own- and I can read between the lines and realize that he's a genuine human being who is as honest a 3rd mic as there is, even if I don't always agree with his tender sentiments.

Sure, I miss O&A from 1998, but I love him on the show, and I think he's actually improved the show. Oh, and I would also quickly point out that when you do 5 hours of talking on the radio every day, it's pretty damn hard to not repeat yourself on things and become predictable about certain subjects. Whenever I talk to people I wind up repeating myself like a damn windbag. But that's the magic of life: you overlook it and move on, and enjoy what they have to say anyway, or you don't, and something else comes up.
Jimmy is too cool for the bus crowd that usually is funneled into the clubs. He is funny as shit but it's for the younger crowd , not the bus tour crowd like Dave has. Jimmy is the funniest comic right now!

Jimmy is fucking hilarious. I think one of the best things about him is his ability to self analyze. If he says or does something douchey, he'll be the first to call himself out. Some other comedians are a little holier than thou and take themselves too seriously.

I think he's great on the show and I just saw him live for the first time two nights ago here in Atlanta and he absolutely slayed. He was one of the best stand-ups I've ever seen.

I love his bit about the GPS guiding you through which area of the city your race can be in and what music you should/ shouldn't play. I've always wondered that. I think that the Jimmy we see on Leno or Letterman seems kinda stiff just because we're used to hearing him laid back chillin as third mic.
He's been pushing them so hard for so long that it either becomes redundant or predictable.

I LOVE when Jimmy is involved in a conversation comfortably.
To anyone who makes the "200 channels and you're complaining about 5 hours on one channel is stupid... turn off your radio.":

YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT! How many hours do people typically listen if they can't listen at work and have a job? Driving to and from work. Maybe they want a laugh. Then that means they have High Voltage, XM Comedy, Laugh USA... that's about it and 2 of those 3 stations suck +80% of the time (don't go for the obvious).

So if you don't like the comedy/talk show of Opie and Anthony you should turn on Lucy? That's a very political answer "there are 200 other channels." That's 1 other official talk channel and that's Oprah. Then you have syndicated news talk radio. I was really hoping lucky louie would get another season and he'd be gone for a long period of time so O and A could get back to what it used to be... the OPIE AND ANTHONY show. It's just too many voices now. I love the comics, but I want to hear ANTHONY get on a roll, OPIE toss him assists, and the occasional remark from whoever is in studio. I seriously turn on the radio at 11:15ish so I can hear a best of from the WNEW days (back when I used to laugh every 5 minutes) and listen through ron and fez. I just don't feel the same listening to the new ONA.

Holy Shit! I prayed for the same thing. I hated Lucky Louie, but I wanted it picked up. I though the Bill Burr and Patrice were so much better in the role of third mic. Its a shame the Anthony gets stepped on all of the time.

It's consistantly Jimmy free for that time. Jimmy is in a ton of the WNEWE replays and is funny as shit. He's just going back to the well over and over and over and over with the same unfunny shock stuff. (I mean, shit, who the fuck uses burn victim jokes so much that they have to abbreviate the phrase into BV?). I've seriously considered taping a show, setting up categories of Jimmy Jokes, clipping them out and counting how many times he does the same old tired shit.

We need a WWE like departure of Jimmy for like 6 months so the show can go back to normal.

I really think that Sniffin made great points. TOO MANY VOICES. OandA don't need so many comedians. Listen to today's RF replay. Ron shits on them for being carried by commedians... why? Because they ARE. Someone is going to figure that out eventually.

The great dynamic of Opie introducing and setting up bits for Anthony to knock over the fence is gone forever unless they do a few weeks of shows by themselves again real soon. I don't even know if they could do that anymore. Because of Norton, Line of the Day, and a bunch of other bullshit Opie is trying to be a fucking comedian. He's not a great comedian. He's a great setup guy. He doesn't dunk the ball, but he throws great passes.

With all that's happened it really feels like a baseball team who's got everyone in the wrong positions on the field. I'm almost hoping things go sour so they re evaluate what the hell it is they're doing.
The Steve from Yellowstone/Ben from Boston stuff that Jim did on XM is some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. It has been done to death though. Same for the FRRRRRRRRRRRUNKUS line, whatever that means.

Jim's kinda hit or miss sometimes. Patrice is a scream. That's all he is most of the time though. A scream. I like Bill Burr and oddly enough Rich Vos, though Vos can leave the Mrs. at home and it would be just fine by me. Back to Jim. I have no problem with Jim till he gets overly mean-spirited without making a point. There was some stuff he did concerning Eric Clapton's kid's death a while back that really went too far for me. But he knew he'd gone too far as well. He said as much and almost seemed to have regretted saying it as soon as it came out.

Jim's alright. He swings for the fence. Takes chances. Sure. I really can't ask for much more than that from a comic.

I was laying in bed last night and the difference in the show/Norton came to me:

When Norton was funny on the show he was a listener. He used to sit and listen to Opie and Anthony do their thing and would interject his REACTIONS from time to time. When Opie and Anthony wanted a story from him they'd bring it out. He wasn't there to be 3rd host. He was a guest in the studio and just listened while Anthony was on a roll. He didn't try to top him. He didn't try to swing for the fences.

The problem is that now he talks as much if not more than Ant and when you're in a "I can do one better" contest and Ant says "I don't think I like that" and Norton goes "It makes me want to kick her in the cunt... die of AIDS" it doesn't leave a lot of room to work with.

It's like receiving small arms fire and dropping a nuke. Where else is there to go? O and A are amazing broadcasters. Jimmy is a great comic. He needs to let O and A do a show and enjoy it like he used to instead of going for line of the day every time he opens his mouth... and trying to one up anthony every time he makes a point (that goes for ANYONE who speaks actually... Jimmy really seems like he's trying to prove himself every second of the day)

I stumbled on this thread and I'm glad I did. I got in a big discussion with my roommate on why O&A sucks now. I said it might as well be called Comic Talk because at this point, the show has been reduced to a bunch of stand-up's trying to put themselves over.

I've never been a big fan of Norton, but he is occasionally funny and I can understand others liking him. Still, I'd like to see him dropped to to or 3 appearances a week. It isn't called the OA&J show. I think Patrice is hilarious, but I think part of that is because he is only on once a week or so.

Then you've got guys like Rich Vos who should never be allowed on the show period. I turn the show off every time I hear his voice. What a void of talent.

WNEW was only a few years ago, sure, but since then people have moved on or aged or simply don't find them funny anymore. O&A were younger too, the show sounded more like a frat house (as it's been called by the media). this is just a new phase of show... darker, angrier, and less rage against the industry b/c they've become the industry. as for listeners, maybe people moved on? don't find it funny anymore? who knows.
