I like to see people fuck up while raising their children. Every single show is about over-indulging the children (ok, maybe not all shows!). I watch this show and think, "I would have gotten THE LOOK for that!" or, "I would have gotten THE CLASPING OF DAD'S BELT BUCKLE for that!"

I knew better than to defy THE LOOK or THE CLASP. I never got hit other than a swat on the hiney when I was growing up. I'm not saying all parents are overly lenient, I just think some parents have lost control of their children. A lot of people try to raise their children as "equals" and talk to them like they are adults. Whereas I agree people should have open communication with their children, kids need and crave boundaries. This is how they learn to respect adults. I had to move from my train seat after hearing a 9 year old berate his mom. Oh, and he was kicking my seat.

Hence, I have cats.

I dont believe you should "beat" your children, but NONE, and I mean NONE of the things you see on that show ever went on in my house growing up. There were four kids and It was like a well oiled machine, my Dad had NO reservations about totally beating our asses, if we even LOOKED at him the wrong way. I usually watch the show in horror and disbeliefe.

I notice they never (I havent seen all the episodes) show a parent who spanks thier child. Is that a thing of the past?

We got threatened with the belt or the dreaded "wooden spoon" and would shut up right away. I think I actually only got swatted once or twice because the fear would always make me stop acting up. Oh, and we went to amish country or somethign and my parents bought a wooden paddle that said "for bad kids" on it and hung it on the wall. Now my father tells me it was a big joke, but we were TERRIFIED of that thing! Acted up in public? We got a stealth pinch while our parents smiled and dragged us out of the store. I don't think kids should be beaten, but they need the fear in them! Now if a kid acts out in public the parents just smile and shrug while their little demon wrecks havoc on the store.

i hate the show, mainly because i hate kids. i do like seeing these parents "reasoning" and negoiating" with their kids instead of being a parent and laying the law down.
