View Full Version : Animal Testing

Whats everyone's opinions on animal testing. Granted, I think it can be cruel in some cases, but without it, there would be the potential chance of harming far more people than the amount of animals tested upon. Plus its started to hit closer to home since my sister is working at a job that does animal testing. Granted, she and I don't get along at times, but I worry about her safety since there are many websites devoted exclusively to shutting down the facility she works at - and I have no idea how far they will go for the well being of the animals. I know how insane these people can get - my friend's sister was constantly harassed by PeTA while driving the Oscar Mayer WeinerMobile.
It depends on the animal. If its cute and/or with some degree of intelligence (such as a monkey or something) then its wrong. If its ugly and/or stupid (a rat for instance) fuck it.

She works primarily with mice/rats but they also test on monkeys and dogs ((i know she mentioned beagles specifically))

And she told me that you can't smile at the monkeys or they get pissed off.

My conscience would not allow me to work at a place like that, regardless of the money. Testing should be as humane as possible.

Now that you said beagles... I really hope it is not the place I think it is. They got video inside that place of beagles being punched in the face. Disgusting.

This perfume is safe to wear. How do we know? We punched Snoopy in the face 13 times.

What's the point of animal testing, most of them can't even hold a pencil. And don't get me started on how many keyboards have been destroyed by some uppity hooved animal. F'ing quadrapeds.

I do NOT support animal abuse AT ALL, but the larger issue to me is people possibly attacking my sister. I don't want her to become some sort of target for these people.
I don't really have a strong opinion on animal testing. I know many people are against it for any reason. It seems to me that we can divide animal testing into 2 groups - tests with a reasonable probability of producing medical benefits for humans and tests that are non-medical in nature (i.e. tests for commercial products). I completely support the former, but I have reservations about the latter. Although testing commercial products probably does less harm to animals.

Not to mention the fact that standardized tests are culturally biased and prove nothing.

I'm all for testing on rapists, murderers and child molesters. This is about the only way they have any worth.

Yeah, I dunno, I don't always believe everything that PETA says... but that place has been in the news a lot. They've been fined multiple times by the USDA, for things like testing on animals without giving them any pain control, not keeping sanitary conditions, etc.

I understand the concerns of animal lovers not wanting animals to be hurt during tests for produts that people will be using. But I would rather an animal be hurt than to have a human hurt using an untested product. I believe that if you value animal life over human, that there is something immoral about that.

this is a little off topic but what the hell where in the off topic thread

what i hate most is why us humans feel the need to control or save all species of animals, millions of years of evolution and darwins theory are/were at play and now all of a sudden we feel the need to save some endangered species ??? maybe that was god or natures plan for that animal and maybe we're fucking up the plan by keeping them around.

i know some of them are endangered do to our own greediness and needs but thats part of the cycle

I had a pretty long talk with my sister about all the stuff her company does, and I realize some of what she said is just the whole shtick they give to their employees. They did have problems with some issues of not complying to some gov't policies, but now they are "more than compliant" to the rules and regulations regarding animal testing, and are accredited by AALAS. I asked her about the videos and all of the stuff involved, and she made some more sense of it ((she's seen the videos on her own)). There's a company picnic there soon, so I might go and meet some more of the people and such.

It made me feel somewhat better, but I still get overly concerned with the psycho animal rights people that have no problem harming or attacking people who work at the facility ((which I think is pretty fucking hypocritical)). My sister told me of one instance where a protester told one of the lab techs "I am going to gut your child." Shit like that is why I hate organizations like PeTA.
